So I went with some folks from work to this club on Fri night. It was a techno/electronica place, so needless to say I was definitely out of my element. We weren't there more than 15 minutes when out of nowhere, a bunch of dudes start breakdance fighting on the dance floor. (Note: I will continue to refer to it as "breakdance fighting" because I don't know the correct term, nor do I care). It was insane, first one guy would do this spin kick thing, then the next guy would come all up and bust a head spin, like BAMM!
However, it was disappointing, as each participant only did his "moves/throwdowns" for 10-20 seconds, and one guy even had on elbowpads. So he knew there would be breakdance fighting! If he had pussed out and not battled, I would've beat him down, because you don't wear elbowpads to the club unless you are going to serve someone. Another guy went around and borrowed the hats of the other competitors, so he could do some "supermove" involving all the hats. I did not see said move, so it was just a waste of time and effort. I thought maybe he was just taking the hats as trophies of everyone he served, but I was mistaken. Haha, I just realized I sound like Jane Goodall observing the chimps.
Overall though, I was not impressed. This didn't seem like real breakdancing to me. I mean, where was the ghetto blaster? Where was the cardboard box? Where was the hip-hop? This was like some sterile white middle class vanilla version of breakdancing. This is not how we did it on the street, no thank you.
