Shodoshima in anime
We've finished watching Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari. It's a fun series about a thirty-something man returning from Tokyo to his parental home in Kagawa prefecture, which is decidedly more "rustic" than Tokyo after his parents died. Lots of angsty soul-searching which gives the series its emotional depth, but otherwise there's not much story to go around. It's fun, and I liked the character designs, they reminded me of Nodame Cantabile.
One of the episodes is set on Shodoshima, an island in the Seto Inland Sea where we stayed a few days on a vacation. There's not much of anything there, and the infrastructure is not really set up for tourists. So it's presented as this reasonably compact island where you can get from one end to the next in decent time as a pedestrian, but that is far from the truth. Still, it's nice to see locations where you've been presented in an anime.
There were also some episodes with lots of landmarks in Kagawa, and it looks like a fun place to visit -- if you have a car and can easily get around...
