stonecamp art

I finished the Anatomy test early (that prerequisite did NOT go to waste) so I've got a few minutes to post.

Labor Day weekend was spent up in the Catskills at the 2nd annual Stonecamp weekend, hosted by Funkcamp, the east coast version of Fandango. They alligned nicely with East/West stereotypes: This group was more sarcastic ("my boyfriend's crying in the tent, WHAT DID YOU DO?"), more productive (live bands > ipod) and more indulgent (filet mignon and lobster tails on the grill, by god).

It was a good way to get to meet this group. Not that I'll have much opportunity to head up to NYC for a while, but when I do, I'll have much of the "getting to know you" phase out of the way.

When not socializing, there was the actual stone camp art to work on. The location was an old quarry, and there was lots to work with. I made two pieces that I was very happy with. The first one I built in the quarry, with lots of rocks to choose from, the second was built out in the woods where I had to go searching for materials.

#1: UFO
There were a couple of thrones built in the quarry last year, and Tanya & Colin's son, Zach, told me about the mythology - the two kings fighting over the quarry. I liked the idea of there being an entirely new and bigger level (though vastly smaller scale) of the world that the two kings didn't even know existed. The thrones are about 5-10x the size of the UFO.

#2: Shark
This was pretty far off the beaten path, though apparently Puck & Whitney, with Moppy's help, are expanding the path down to this neck of the woods. There are old farm stone walls around, dating back hundreds of years. I like to think this guy might be around for a while as well.
