I'm not feeling inspired to write, but I think it's probably a good habit for me to keep updating, even if it's not particularly well crafted.
Wednesday was a little depressing - note to self, there's not much lonelier than losing to the xbox at Tiger Woods.
Thursday I woke into one of my typical stress dreams: I thought class started at 12:15, and so took a nice lazy stroll down to school while having a nice conversation with Shabbir. But when I arrived to find an empty classroom, I saw the corrected time was 11:30. Everyone was in lab, but as this was the first lab day, I had NO idea where the lab room was. No one was in the education office, no one was answering their phones, there wasn't any info on the syllabus, either the print or on-line versions, sweat's dripping down my face. Two absences equals a drop in letter grade, the first week there and it looks like I'll be halfway there. Eventually, a second year came through the area and I had him take me to the lab, and the teacher was cool about it. But boy that sucked.
Thursday night, my brother treated me to a concert, along with another SF expat, Karen. We saw the Hoodoo Gurus, a band that I first listened to back before many of my fellow RT students were born.
Friday after class I went downtown to toss a frisbee with someone who'll be on my local fall league team. Afterwards there had been plans to go out to the burbs to hang with my brother, but he had to cancel for larval reasons. I had a momentary fear of having no other options but returning back to the apartment on a Friday night, but I called one of my few other social options, a friend from highschool who lives nearby, and she invited me to join her and her sister as they were going downtown for "First Friday." While waiting for them to meet me, I walked around the city and chatted with Roo. First Friday was a lot of fun, warm summer evenings and flat streets make for a very popular civic endeavor. Plus, I ran into a couple that I knew lived in the area but hadn't yet built up the drive to look up. (The Sweadlof-Baldanados, for those following along at home.)
For the rest of this weekend, I plan to get cracking on my studies and perhaps visit Joe and crew. But I've started playing Ticket To Ride online, so if I don't make it out there, at least I'll be getting beat by real people rather than just the computer.
