Oh god you poor thing!! It IS sucky to be an adult, innit? Adults are stoopid. When you're a kid, you can just walk up to someone and ask: "Do you wanna play with me?" and if they say yes, you're friends. People really should never EVER stop playing!!

Anyway.. You know, you're really quite an awesome person. You're loved even by people who haven't met you in real life and are an entire ocean away from you all the way in the Netherlands! I'm a big fan of you.

If you feel so bad about the party already, you really don't have to go. But they did say you could bring a friend. Maybe you can go with someone you really really like and get all fancied up in advance together, and just go there and make fun of the other adults with your friend. You might like it. Maybe it's easier to talk to your co-workers at a party than it is at the office? But of course: you don't HAVE TO anything. It's just that maybe you'll feel bad after if you don't go. You could just think of how rediculous getting all fancy-schmancy really is, make it fun for yourself by pretending it's a little dress-up party. That usually works for me.
