Exercise related

Hey guys. I'm currently trying to see if I can get rid of my "hourglass" figure by building upper body muscles and was wondering if anyone else had successfully tried this before? If so, what muscles did you focus on and what exercises did you find worked the best? Thanks!

Yes, it is possible. I haven't had much luck with chest development but I have had luck with getting larger shoulders and a wider back and it definitely has improved my body shape. I can fit into adult dress shirts now. Going to a gym will get you the best results. If you're like me, who is nuerotic and unemployed, there are plenty of ways to exercise at home that will give you results, although the gym is really the optimal way. But, the main thing about exercise is consistency! If I never go to the gym I will have zero results. If I improvise at home I will have results. Right now I'm doing an experiment where I'm aiming to exercise consistently and eat like a horse and see where I end up in 2 months to see if I can improve my chest ( ... )

Not to hijack this thread too mcuh...

This is what Jim Wendler recommends. If you go to his Web site (www.jimwendler.com) and use his search function, you'll find an article about improving your bench, He basically says the strength of your BP is related to how much food you shovel in.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply! The body weight exercises are exactly what I was looking for, since I can't afford a gym membership right now.

No problem. You can also check out this website: http://www.bodyweightculture.com/forum/forum.php They have tons of threads on how to make a workout routine, different exercises, how to stretch, what to eat, etc. People on there also lift and go to the gym, so you can get a range of input from people. And no, no one says you can look like the Hulk from doing bw exercise.

2 things I wanted to put my 2 cents in on where I'm not exactly in line with industrialdoom.

1) Going to a gym will not necessarily "get you the best results". My girl-chest was far to large to exercise in public pre-top surgery, so I bought 300lbs of standard sized weights on craigslist for <$100 and found a weight bench for free. Used that working out at home for over a year with great results. If you're not as dirt poor as I was at that point, then you'd be able to get even better workout equipment than me.

2) Please do squats. They're so good for your entire body- back, stomach, core, legs, rear-end, shoulders. Even if its once a week, work some squats into your routine.
