Transgender cops?

Nov 07, 2012 11:09

I'm looking at all my options for a career that I can get into. So I ask, can we (transgender folks) be police officers? I'm asking because we can't be drafted into war, so is this kinda the same thing? Has anyone heard about a cop that's transgender?

In the US? Yes. If you use google to search for news stories, you'll find a bit.

Thanks. I googled it and found mostly MTF cops. But safe to say that transgender people do work on the force Good for that :)

Yes, I believe there is one (known) guy in SF, and another guy that I personally know in NC.

Yes you can, completely different from the military. Here's one: http://www.ebar.com/news/article.php?sec=news&article=3382

Simple Answer, YES. In the US I know of Trans Cops, Firefighters and EMT workers. Some areas they give you a harder time than others but it is possible.

I know a guy who is LAPD - on a SWAT-like team. It's just the military that won't take someone due to having transitioned.
