Shaving and terribly sensitive skin?

Jan 30, 2011 17:47

It just occurred to me that this would be a place where I can ask for advice on this matter.

Long story short: Most likely thanks to my Irish ancestry I get to enjoy extremely pale and sensitive skin. I get sunburnt in the winter. If I get a pimple the redness alone makes me look like my face is about to implode upon itself. It's pretty awful.

Predictably this also affects me when I shave, and I am pretty serious business about making sure that when I do shave I get *everything*. I really like being generally smooth after shaving and it really bothers me if I'm not. I don't think I press any harder with the razor than anyone else or scrap away anymore than I should, but really even shaving gently leaves me with a really red and irritated face that sticks around for at least 45 minutes or so. It's pretty embarrassing and frustrating. It doesn't hurt badly or anything but it's really apparent.

Any tips? I've tried a million different kinds of razors, shaving creams, methods of shaving, etc. Electric shavers don't do ANYTHING for me (like literally they take off like no hair? am I just dumb?). I grow facial hair really fast so I have to shave every morning and it's quite dark and thick, which bothers me. Agh. Any advice would be excellent.
