Hairline

I've read and noticed that (speaking in generalities) women tend to have a rounder hairline, and men can sometimes have a "M shape" with it going in a bit at the temples, even if they don't have a receding hairline. Has anyone ever shaved/naired/waxed a tiny bit around the temples to alter the hairline? Or am I thinking way too hard about this ( Read more... )

Thanks dude, that's really useful. I don't know whether I will do it, but I was curious.

i always think about this. i've got a pretty round hairline, so i leave the top longer and cut the sides short up the sides, about to where the sides of the "m" shaped hairline are, so that the contrast is more prominent.

i have a few other trans friends who grow their hair a little longer in the front and cut it into a triangle kind of shape so that it creates the impression of a male hairline. i don't know if that describes it well enough, though.

as a barber I will tell you... please do not alter your hairline. let the T do it for you.

I am not a barber, but I second, third, and fourth that advice. OP, if your hairline is causing you concern, I would talk to a barber about haircuts that would do different things to your hairline. When I was in the early T days, I favored a high and very tight fade. Although I wound up looking sort of like a cross between a 1930s West Virginia high-school principal and Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, my hairline was virtually unnoticeable. Not sure I'd recommend it, though, unless you're doing some sort of weird TVA reenactment or something.

I know people who've done this and some are now totally bald and wish for those days when they worried about such things. I would just try not to worry (I know it is easier said than done) and enjoy all the changes as they come! They will come and life is just beginning anew in a sense.
