United States' First Pro-Transgender Law is Signed

I think is is important to mention that President Obama signed the "The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act" into law today. Quoting Speaker Nancy Pelosi, "This legislation will help protect Americans against violence based on sexual orientation, race, religion, gender, national origin, disability, or gender identity by extending the federal hate crimes statute."

In the release above, Mara Keisling says, "This is a powerful day as the United States government, for the first time, stands up and declares that violence against transgender people is wrong and will not be tolerated in our country."
