I have four sets of friends; real life, Facebook, snail mail, and here. And I can't even keep up with the real life ones! Oh make that five, my imaginary friends, ie, characters in my stories. I have twelve ebooks with JMS publishing and a few others here and there, but uh... six novels, two books of short stories and some other things, none of which are going to make me rich. Only TWO of our local 'real life' friends have read any of them. Only ONE of my kids has. (and she read the worst one).

I need some self-discipline. I should be updating my various 'presences' online. I should be reviewing books by others and also places I go to, via Travelogue. I could even be putting photos up on TrekEarth.

What I'm doing is balancing various ailments with volunteering at the bookstore, snorkeling, walking, and keeping up with the real-life friends/wife/ medical appts and all the rest life throws at you.

Now we add in what do I get people for Christmas along with do I even half to? Kids? Grandkids I don't really know? Kids who barely keep in contact?

Something I can and do do is, relocate books. We get so many decent books thru the shop, slightly worn or not at all worn, and many go 'outside' to be given away for free, if it doens't rain and ruin them. Or, after that they go in the dumpster, which is painful!  What is painful personally is when I contact an organization that could use books, like keep a box for the homeless whom they feed every night, and they don't even get back to me.  I'm not in it for the gratitude at my age, if ever I was. My physical therapist ran out to thank me when I left a bag for her kid in her office while she was with a client. She's sweet! And Danny sent a photo of his four kids who had written thank you notes, with huge smiles, and the baby sucking her older sister's finger. What a huge smile that gave me!

I get books for my sister who helped me financially so much several decades ago. The odd thinng with that is I almost never find any of the ones she needs at the bookstore, but only at the mainland book sellers via Amazon. I don't mind paying a penny a book but it's $3.99 for each book for shipping. I can order ten from one place and it's still $3.99 each. BS, but I can do it. She is one of my very few snail mail people - will not do computers even though her career revolved around inventing and building them and writing programs in them.

And hey, LJ did not make me work to post this.
