Marine Livestock

Yesterday we went down to the Kameole Beach Park II (there are three) to see a stranded whale. It was an ill and injured pygmy sperm whale. We knew a lot of the people helping deal with it. The protocol is to keep it wet and comfortable and then a vet from Oahu flies in to determine if it can be helped or needs to be euthanized. I don't know under what circumstances one should put it back into the ocean. This one had also been bleeding so there was blood in the water AKA close the beach to swimming because blood attracts sharks. Robyn went around telling people what was going on and educating them about whales, which is what she does as a volunteer at the whale sanctuary. I got to chat to a lot of people including one young man who lost his $900 IPhone in the sea and was stomping around like a 4 year old yelling the F word.
