I held out a long time, because that is what I do. But a few months ago, I started a
Pinterest board. New forms of social media or sharing platforms take me a while to adopt because I weigh the usefulness of it carefully.
I started on Pinterest so I could post images that inspired me. I have a travel board and a board of peoples' work spaces, but the one I spend the most time on, the one that I curate the most is called
"Style and Living Well." The inspiration is, of course, aspirational. like most, I believe my personal taste is excellent and far exceeds the parameters of my own budget and station in life (and maybe even my physical shape). I collect images of good drink, appetizing food, gorgeous interiors, even beautiful women (mostly Scarlett Johanssen). But the thing I am really interested in is clothes. For being someone who dresses as relatively mid-grade as I do, it would surprise most of my circle how much I am into classic menswear. I spend an inordinate amount of time online scouring "style" blogs (Tumblr is the worst...).
Style is about the subtle details. To the naked eye a sneaker is just a sneaker and a coat is just a coat. But of course, it is so much more than that. I've always been intrigued by why people make the decisions they do. Even if it's something as seemingly inconsequential as picking out a pair of running sneakers or an autumn sweater.
All the decisions we make eventually make up our character. These decisions are subsequently a reflection (or projection) of our taste, sensibility, personality, etc. I've heard you are what you eat. But you are also what you read, what you listen to, what you create, what your environment is and most of all, what you wear.
Style is what all these external factors mean to the internal world of a person. And I find it fascinating...
