We had a great evening of one-acts and monologues at Abingdon tonight. Four members of our playwrights group were represented, and we had an interesting variety of pieces. And I was very pleased that In Praise of Jeff and JJ seemed to come off exactly as I wanted. We got big laughs and a few tears, and from talking to a few people afterward, I think I did capture that special dynamic of college roommates: the way somebody you don't know becomes one of the most important people in your life for a short time, and how you can share intimate moments with someone you may not even like all that much. I was also pleased that the dialogue worked so well. The two teenage boys I had -- excellent, excellent actors -- sounded so natural, and they both enjoyed the play.
And I've always wanted to write a play that ended with the characters dancing wildly around the stage.
So, all in all, I'm very happy.
