You see, there is this little thing called a "Republic" where people vote other people to get together and make decisions about how the nation is going to be run. It works pretty well, but it has two big weaknesses:
1. The people doing the voting have to actually care enough want to to educate themselves on the people they are voting for, and then take the time actually do it.
2. The elected officials have to actually care enough to educate themselves on the things they are voting on, and then actually take the time to do it.
If those two things don't happen, you can pretty much chuck the whole system out the window.
My solution? Well as much as I'd love to restrict the sovereign franchise to people who actually care what happens around them (a la Starship Troopers), you can't really chuck the voters. But that doesn't mean you have to keep lazy morons like this in the Congress of the United States. Especially when they have the unmitigated gall to call onto the carpet people that are simply asking them to do the job that they were elected to do.
There is a Pledge Card that is circulating around Congress asking that Members take a pledge to actually read the Health Care Reform Bill before they vote on it, and allow the American People 72 hours to read it before it is voted on by Congress. That seems pretty fair to me.
So far, the people that have actually agreed to take that pledge are the following:
