It also reminds me a little bit of how some male friendships can so often include copious amounts of insults, something I don't like either. And yeah, the original anime overdid it.
Yeah, I know that they, or especially Venus, grew much more ditzy as the seasons went on. I hadn't previously realized it happened in the manga too. She always was kind of an oddball, but it got worse from S on in the anime. But at least she and Jupiter still know when to get serious. Years ago, I didn't notice the Mars and Venus and Jupiter and Mercury bonding much, as I was in it largely for the plot. But I started noticing when I re-watched episodes more recently and I loved it.
I like Chibiusa, so it was alright watching the R arc in Crystal. I knew barely any of the manga version of the storyline and I wanted to see what happened. It was so different from the original anime that it was like getting entirely new episodes with new twists I wasn't expecting. But I'll admit I didn't like it very much. I like the R arc in the original anime better, but even then, it's my least favorite season of the four I've seen the most episodes from. (I have never got around to watching more than the first two episodes of StarS....)
The original anime was wonderful, yes. The characters had so much time to develop and grow, instead of the manga and Crystal just rushing through everything.
