(hysteric, yeah yeah yeahs)

They talk about home and life before Skins like it's all so incredibly distant, memories carrying more weight than they actually do. It should make the ache harder to ignore, unpleasant and sending them running for their separate beds, away from that stupid nostalgia.

Only it doesn't send them running. They simply sink into it.

Scripts lay forgotten beside them on the floor, perpendicular to them and the bottle they're sharing. She can see the shape of Lily's hands playing with the string across her blouse, put there for decoration and distraction and nothing else. Kat's ankle is crossed over Lily's, and it's been like this for a good while, only she's just now settling into the comfort of it.

"I miss Sundays."

Kathryn smiles up at the ceiling. "Isn't it odd how Bristol doesn't have those?"

Lily snorts, "Trying to be sentimental here and you go and say that."

Sighing apologetically, Kat nudges Lily's shoulder with her arm. "Keep going then."

She can see Lily start to chew on the bottom of her lip. "I miss breakfast on Sundays, watching the telly with my dad, a match or fucking cartoons, even."

"Oh my god," Kathryn sits up, a sharp intake of breath and eyes gone wide, looking down at Lily. But when she continues, her voice cracks and she can't keep a straight face. "Look at you, all secretly domestic."

"Shut up!" Lily halfheartedly slaps her arm, covers her face with her other hand, cheeks gone red. "Never speak of this."

"I never would've assumed. You don't strike me as..." Kat lets the pause sink in, lets that be the end of it, lying back down beside her. "Don't worry, your dirty little secret is safe with me."

"Is it - is it really that surprising?"

Kat looks over, sees blue looking back, and she sighs without even knowing why.

"Me being all...domestic, or whatever," Lily clarifies, blinking and looking away.

"I was only kidding. Though..."

"What?"

"You do come off as someone who can't stand to be in one place for a long time."

"How do you mean?"

"Like, I dunno, after all this...I imagine you'll have an easy time moving on from it. I always see you off in Hollywood or the like, I see you making that happen." Kat props herself up on her elbow as she speaks, can't fight the urge to memorize how Lily looks below her, blonde hair splayed across the carpet, her hands still nervously fidgeting with the string of her blouse and, fuck, bottom lip between her teeth. "And when you do, I'm fucking bumming a flight over and crashing on your couch."

"Oh, really?"

Kat nods enthusiastically. "It'll be like that Entourage show, only we'll be girls, and that fucking Piven guy nowhere to be seen. At least, I hope."

Lily's eyebrows shoot up, quite on purpose, as she pokes Kat in the side. "You've thought this out, then?"

"Only just now!" Kathryn clarifies. Lies. "I'm quite good at improv, see."

"Oh, really?" It's almost like Lily's daring her, like she can see right through her.

"You'd know if you asked."

"How well are you at improv usually isn't on my list of things to ask a girl, actually."

"Oh, but if it's a lad, it is?"

"Of course. Priorities, see."

It's Kathryn's turn to cock an eyebrow, questioning. "What's your priority for girls, then?"

She can hear the sound of a mobile start to vibrate and knows immediately that it's Lily's, knows that it's just her luck. But Lily's looking at her dead on, and it's that silly feeling of magnetism, like she couldn't look away even if she tried.

"Lil..." she starts, regrets immediately.

"Hmm?" Lily's biting down so hard on her lip that Kathryn's sure she'll break skin if she doesn't stop.

"Your..." she doesn't look away, half-heartedly lifts her hand up to point at the mobile. When she finishes, her voice is barely audible. "Your phone."

"Oh!" Lily sits up, obviously only just then noticing it. She reaches over to grab it, and the smile she has when she picks it up leaves Kathryn with a sick feeling of dread.

She sees it coming, then.

(Lily starts dating one of the crew, of course.

He's nice, quite cute, and even has a name - but none of these things really matter to Kathryn. After a glance (or five) of them, together and looking to enjoy it far too much, she decides it's simply easier to look the other way.)

It's morning, the first one after a week's break, and Kathryn sits at the kitchen island with a random rag open before her. Her coffee tastes disgusting at the back of her throat, and this first sip is one too many. The mug is placed in the center of the counter, where it'll go untouched for the rest of the morning.

"You look like shit, Kitty Kat," is the first thing Lily says to her when she walks out, looking as fresh from sleep as Kathryn feels.

"Good to see you, too."

She smirks at this, scratches her head and only half-attempts to fix the cowlick in her hair.

"When'd you get in?" Kat finally asks.

"Late."

"No kidding. I didn't get in till three and I checked your room before knocking out."

Lily grins at this, and for some reason, it completely infuriates Kat, because she knows what's coming...

"What?"

"You checked to see if I was here," Lily explains, shit-eating grin and all. "You missed me, Prescott."

Kat half-scoffs, half-laughs. "I did not!"

"You did! Admit it!"

(This goes on for a bit, of course, and Lily forgets what they were talking about and Kat never does work up the nerve to admit Lily's right.

She fucking hates that Lily's right.)

Scripts for Pandora's episode come in and there's no surprise - they'd pretty much figured, with the producers constantly checking up on them about the storyline - but Kathryn's hands still shake as she gets to the first kiss scene. The first, as in, it isn't alone, there's another. In just one episode.

She wonders, she prays, that when they'd mentioned the extensive snogging, they didn't just mean this episode, they didn't mean that it'd be a one time thing and you'd never see Naomi and Emily snogging on screen ever again.

She really hopes that isn't how it'll go.

(Put simply enough, Kathryn can't wait till rehearsals.)

On set, she walks into the dressing room and immediately catches sight of a distracted Lily sitting on the sofa. "How's my little drummer porn star?"

"Oh, bugger off." Lily throws a pillow, Kathryn ducks.

"Cranky, are we?"

"To say the least." Lily sighs, but there's a shift in her expression, tired eyes lifting into exaggeration, wide and all-too-innocent. There's a smile fighting at the corners of her mouth when she adds, in a lighter tone: "It's quite exhausting being ravished all night long, I've found."

Kat rolls her eyes. "I happen to know for a fact you were out with Kaya last night."

"Was, for a bit. Ended up at a pub and...well."

"Liar."

"Met some bikers. Full of sperm." She shrugs, sits back into the couch, turned away from Kat. Even then, the smile is clear in her voice. "Couldn't help myself."

"Yeah, well..." Kat's voice is a little too high, a little too strong. Mission accomplished. "Your slag is showing."

(The future for them holds more possibilities than it had a year - even a few months - ago.

This fact is utterly terrifying.)

The first time Kathryn kisses Lily, properly kisses her, she tastes like weed and gin and fucking strawberries. She'll remember the last more clearly than the others, and this probably means something.

Late morning, she looks up from cold cereal in an off-white bowl, a hot cup of tea, and sees Lily collapsing onto the couch.

"Today feels like a lazy day," she sighs into the fabric, no effort going into opening her eyes.

"For you, maybe, but I actually feel like accomplishing something."

"You can be lazy and still accomplish stuff," Lily shoots back, defensively. She turns onto her back, looking up at the ceiling. "It just has to be things one can do indoors, from the comfort of one's couch. That's all."

Kat can't help but smile. "You're quite pathetic."

"I'm allowed." Lily looks at her without moving, head tilting back so she sees her upside down. "You are too, you know."

"Is that your way of inviting me to join?"

"Sort of. I won't fight you on it, of course, because that would require too much energy." She closes her eyes, gets comfortable where she lies, settled for the day. She adds, voice light: "And you're not worth it."

Kat catches her bottom lip between her teeth before a full-on smile can spread, looks at Lily from the corner of her eyes. She pretends to find absolute fascination in her empty cereal bowl before finally responding: "I'm not, am I?"

"Not in the slightest. Now toss off so I can catch some shut eye."

A moment of silence. "Do you want to just... go somewhere? Fuck off for a bit?"

Lily's eyes open, and she rolls over so she can look at Kat directly. Her expression is a mixture - brow furrowed but a slight upward turn at the corner of her mouth, eyes alight with something familiar. "That would probably interrupt my plans for the day."

"Probably, yeah?"

After a minute: "What exactly do you have planned?"

Lily cocks an eyebrow and Kat doesn't hesitate in the slightest: "Absolutely nothing."

The smile spreads across Lily's face like paint on a canvas. Kat doesn't care how cheesy this analogy is, because she imagines, she knows, that there's someone out there that looks at the world's most beautiful painting and is left as breathless as she is when Lily smiles.

It never wavers, once, even when Lily responds with a voice practically trembling with glee. "That's exactly the kind of plan I like."

They don't actually end up going out, of course, because if there's anything that the movies don't teach you, it's that it hardly ever rains on cue with a dramatic moment and it's certainly never guaranteed to be a sunny, warm day when you want to go out for a bit. The streets practically overflow with water, and both are poorly packed for the weather, so they resign themselves to a day in.

Shitty daytime shows, a half-empty mini bar and a bag of pot. "Classy, we are." Lily jokes, rolling a blunt.

She lets Kathryn start it. Everything eventually, inevitably, softens and relaxes. Kathryn passes it back to Lily, whose eyes gaze forward at no particular thing.

"Good shit, yeah?" Lily mumbles, inhales.

Kat only just nods, licks her lips by way of an actual answer.

But Lily, Lily's a talker when she's high. She takes a second inhale, holds it, then slowly exhales. Her head bobs to music that isn't playing. "Thinking of what it'd be like, filming high. Not like getting pissed, is it? It'd be pretty nice. Totally feel like our characters - like they're not characters at all, yeah? They're real? Instead of me and you acting in front of a camera, it's just Naomi and Emily. We'd be them, they'd be us. I'd imagine that'd be fucking fantastic."

A corner of Kat's mouth quirks; a half laugh, half sigh and she just breathes, "Yeah."

Lily hands over the joint, near the point of burning fingers. Her eyes watch Kat's fingers wrap around it, pull away, and bring themselves to her lips. Lily watches this happen twice before saying anything. "I'm right fucked up, Kitty Kat."

Kat smiles, laughs, speaks a bit stronger this time. "Yeah?"

Their eyes meet. A smile from Lily, a slight lift of the head: "Yeah."

Kathryn nods just like Lily - an agreement.

Then she kisses her.

The sudden dryness in Kat's mouth is replaced by the wetness of Lily's and it's a mash of tongues and teeth and lips and she's gripping onto her for dear life and it's fucking amazing. Hands on her arms, hands at her sides, hands at her hip, and there's a grip in every step, a bolt up inside her. They sink backwards against the frame, Kathryn pushed at an awkward angle until Lily wraps her arms around the small of her back and fucking lifts her up before pushing her to the ground. Then -

Then Lily fucking straddles her. (This might've made her almost come.)

"Jesus," she calls out, even as Lily stills above her.

Suddenly, Lily's face breaks out into a smile, and she snorts, head falling back as she starts laughing uncontrollably.

"What - ?"

Lily brings her hand to her face, which has turned bright red. "Fucking incredible. Rehearsals will go so much better if we do it like this."

Kathryn doesn't answer, using every bit of willpower she has left to not fucking cry her eyes out.

Lily rolls off of her, onto her back, laughter gradually dying down until it's a hiccup. "Don't you think?"

Swallowing does no good, her throat just tightening even more around her voice.

"Yeah. I guess."
