Hey.
No overall theme to this post, just the usual stuff that's been on my mind these days.
1) You know a World War is coming when high-powered regional archrivals begin collecting mutual-defense treaties from "White Knights". A few months ago, India and Great Britain signed an MDT...this past week, Mainland China and Pakistan signed one. Were events like this more widely reported in the press of 1914 or 1939? I only found out about the PRC/Pak Pact because I was looking for something else in GoogleNews...the story didn't get much attention from the mainstream press here because of the death of the Pope and other close-to-home issues.
Does this mean if Mainland China moves on Taiwan and the U.S. responds militarily, that Pakistan can break off ties with the U.S.--and call to a halt their end of the hunt for Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaida? Will further alliances be drawn by the Central Asian republics? If war breaks out involving India and China, what's that going to do to the U.S. economy?--especially as China is a labor and energy market competitor and India is a major tech support provider to the U.S.?
And since Mainland China is a military-hardware provider to Iran, does this mean a further entrenchment on that front?
Whose cities are China's nuclear weapons pointed at? India's? England's? Ours?
2) I'm working on a scale model motorcycle for IPMS and that's keeping me a little busy.
3) Past and Place: I have been racking my brain off and on trying to remember the name of a shopping plaza in Clearwater at the corner of US 19 and NE Coachman. It's no longer in existance; it got torn down around 1990 or so to make way for a WalMart. It didn't have much in the way of fancy stores but I visited the Hobby Box and Toy Box every so often and even ate a lunch at the Chinese restaurant one day.
I don't know why I'm even trying to remember. It's just one of those things.
4) I forgot to mention that my brother returned the copy of "Rock N Roll" he borrowed from me a week ago. I should get him his own copy...or perhaps a better book, one more up to date.
5) My mother and I have become horribly addicted to Bejeweled 2. I'm trying not to let it affect my work but it does.
6) Little by little, I'm trying to wrap up "Chillin' Out" and get to work blocking the sequel/follow up "Gilded Cage".
7) I updated my resume on Monster.com yesterday. I'll probably search their job listings Monday.
