War and Narcissism

May 24, 2009 22:12

There's an article on Yahoo! that goes into a specific problem of modern parenting, but is more an indicator of how selfish the average American (and thus, America as a whole culture) has become. Between that and my re-examination of the experience of the Second World War (watching WW2: Behind Closed Doors on PBS and World At War over YouTube) I'm asking myself what the generations that fought and died in that and other preceding wars would think of us. Here we are, richer than we've ever been in terms of standard of living, driving our nation into the ground and fighting a war with no clear purpose or end goal. How can we get ourselves out of this predicament?
