I was reading
lordremo's
post for today and remembering why I hate politics in this country so much.
FTR, in the Nineties I thought myself apolitical. The reason being that while I disliked President (and especially First Lady) Clinton, I also had a very healthy dislike for what the Republicans in Congress and the "conservative" side of the mass media were doing as his opposition. I felt nobody was on "my side" anymore.
And these days, I feel that way just as much. And more bitter and angry than I did then.
I don't like either of the major parties' Presidential candidates very much. I don't know any of the other parties', because the mass media are failing to cover them, as covering Obama and McCain is too much fun and spectacle for the media to pass up. Not that I expect anybody from an alternative party to be on "my side" either.
So this election cycle, while it may interest me on some practical level, doesn't engage me on an emotional level. I used to joke that I wish it were possible for both teams to lose a basketball game (I hate basketball); why shouldn't I wish that it could be possible for both candidates can lose an election?
