A while ago Zarla coloured the comic she did with VIJ and Molly in it and my love for them returned and smacked me in the face. So I've been drawing them a bit.

It started with wondering what VIJ would look like as a teenager! I put her in human clothes because even I sort of see her as living with ZEX and the VUX most of the time and spending some time with Molly and the humans every now and then and she probably picked up some of their clothes and mannerisms. More on that later.

I wanted to draw VIJ in the typical 'trashy rebellious teenage girl' outfit and you have no idea what horrible wheezing noises I made while creating this.
Still sweet on the Captain, I see. And how could she not be? Such a handsome face.

OKAY SO BACK TO VIJ PICKING UP HUMAN MANNERISMS I imagine her being around humans so much growing up sort of... put her in an odd place, identity-wise. She picked up gestures humans use that don't translate well when speaking with other VUX, stuff like specific hand gestures. Lots of bending her arms only at where the elbow and wrist would be. Keeps her head tendrils far too still because the squiggling is distracting or disturbing. Uses jokes and turns of phrases that are very human. I imagine trying to hold a conversation with another VUX at length would be off-putting for them, especially if they're the typical human-hating kind of VUX.
(Living with ZEX and the others might help her pick up on little tidbits of VUX culture and habits she would've missed being separated from her family, of course, but it's not like any of them have any major free time that can be dedicated to raising and socialising a child.)
Not that she has any more luck interacting with humans. By typical human standards she's still pretty ugly, or at least stands out like a sore thumb. No matter how still she keeps her head tendrils they squiggle all about and she's got that GIANT STARING EYE and that tongue oh my god.
Here she is trying to flirt with a human boy and a VUX boy and getting turned down. The text got cut off;
"Uh, no, sorry. I'm just more into human girls, you know? Thanks and all, but... no."
"Nooo no no, no way. You're just so... alien. It's bizarre. And your clothes are hideous."
