So, it still needs refinement, but Halloween came and went with a workable costume.
The biggest problem with the costume is the fact that it's incredibly uncomfortable to wear for more than about an hour, though a lot of that is the fact that the boots are a size and a half too big (why is it so hard to find size 5's?)
Lord what a cluttered house. Anyway! The mask was absolutely insane. I'm not sure exactly how long it took; however long it takes to watch Robin Hood: Men in Tights twice. It's a colander, nine guage wire, some polyfill, lightweight cotton duck and more fabric glue than you can shake a stick at. Ash was good enough to draw the pupil with a magic marker, and appropriately enough ZEX looks a little stoned. The tendrils are fully posable; the right side is squished down here; maybe I ran into something, I don't know.
The whole thing from the front. Not much to say. It's too bad I went with bar pins for the medals; they're sort of heavy and kept flopping over. The nylons dyed pretty well. They start digging in after a while, though. I'll have to find a way to attach them to the shirt.
The side! I didn't have time to cut away the back of the skirt thing, which looks a little awkward. The tails are very poofy, giving me a swayback that I'm not entirely unhappy with. Looks a little more alien than standing ramrod straight. The pants, on the other hand, are two sizes too big for me. I had to fold and pin them at the waist to keep them from falling down, so ZEX has got a bit of a gut. If I spy some gray leggings, they'll make a nice substitute for the ginormous pants.
The back! The tails swish quite a bit when I walk. The only change I think I'll make will be to wire them. They look a little limp at the moment, and the wire would give them a curl. Might pull out some of the stuffing, too, at least from the center tail. I didn't get a chance to attach the nylon webbing. Maybe some other time.
All in all, it didn't come out as bad as I'd feared. Scared some children, confused some adults. :3
