Chivalry, Bushido, Honor and Glory

Hello!  I'm new here, but endlessly fascinated with a certain pair of species: the Yehat and the Shofixti.

The Yehat and the Shofixti are truly interesting to me--enough to speculate endlessly on them.  Yes, we get quite a bit of info, but not enough for me!  So...lemme run through this.  Please do comment upon anything lackluster, as I tend to ( Read more... )

yehat, history/society, intro post, meta/theory, shofixti, discuss!

That makes a lot of sense. :O Yehat who hadn't met, or raised, Shofixti probably wouldn't care about them in the same way.... It could easily be the case that the ones on planets didn't really get involved as much and there weren't really any Shofixti actually living on Yehat worlds (I'd never thought of it before, but the bit where they blow up their sun and all but a few of them die... that wouldn't really work if they were more a part of planetbound Yehat society, would it? Because then there would be some of them on Yehat planets, and they'd survive. Unless they uprooted themselves to go back home to die, too?).

And welcome! 8D

Exactly! They seem to stick to their own systems, and with the Ur-Quan massing they WOULD withdraw to their system if there were any--and I doubt there were any in the Yehat worlds. Also, the "evacuation" I mentioned? I think the Maidens were the very first step in that evacuation, before the Yehat withdrew. It would explain why there is just this random shipment of Shofixti Maidens.

And thanks! I've been lurking here for a while, I just finally got something to contribute!

Yeah, I do kind of wonder why there were random frozen Shofixti around. Although, if it were a deliberate attempt to allow them to repopulate, you'd think there'd be some of both sexes, not just females. I mean, they didn't count on Tanaka and Katana surviving.
Ideas:
*There were some of both sexes (and a lot more of them, too) but something happened and only a few survived.
*There actually were both males and females among the cyrogenically frozen ones, but Shofixti don't have a whole lot of sexual dimorphism (at least, not that would be obvious to non-Shofixti) so ZEX and the Melnorme thought they were all female.

There's still the question of how ZEX ended up with them... but from Tanaka's story, the Shofixti were involved in fighting the VUX specifically. So, maybe some were captured--and then frozen to keep them from blowing themselves up or something similarly destructive.

There's also the theory there may have been fewer males--or maybe just one, who didn't make it. After all, they seem immune to the effects of inbreeding, so perhaps one pilot and a few maidens. And if said maidens were ALREADY frozen, it'd explain why they weren't unfrozen in the menagerie (Zarla mentioned that, and I agree, that others may not know how to work with that technology) but at the same time there is no way that ZEX is going to miss a chance to nab a ship full of Shofixti where the pilot died before activating the glory device.

Just a theory tho.

*nod* That would make sense, too, since they wouldn't actually need as many males ( ... )

I did the best I could on what information WAS given, but the idea of the pilots learning it makes sense.

If pilots all learn it, though, that suggests that they need to--that it's commonly used for something. I wonder what that would be? Maybe they do a lot of long-distance missions, and freezing is common. So either they all know how to revive each other (so they can trade off not being frozen--though this would be more useful for shorter missions, since they'd still be spending at least 1/6 of their time out of suspension), or the ships are set up to be able to do it automatically (so they can all be frozen at once).

...now that you mention it...this would make sense. If a Shofixti is offworld to begin with, they have a PURPOSE to being offworld, and prolonging their ability to serve this purpose would be in their best interests.
