Well, the magic I'm familiar with is anima magic. Mages wield primarily fire and thunder elements, while water and wind elements are rarer. The spells require tomes and, optionally to strengthen the spell, the aid of spirits. I could show you, if you're interested, milord.
There is also restorative magic, light magic that requires faith in the Saint, and... elder magic. However, I do not know quite as much on those subjects, milord.
Anything from daily conveniences, such as lighting a stove or freezing food to preserve it for a bit long, to any number of military applications to just about everything in-between. Staves are used to treat injuries. I've heard light magic is used in many church rituals, but I have no specifics on that. Elder magic... I cannot think of any use of it that doesn't boil down to causing someone pain.
In my world, magic is a force of destruction used solely by Witches. This power is so strong that it contorts their personalities, making them crave causing chaos and pain.
The power to destroy which comes with the knowledge of magic, would it be better for humans to lack this knowledge?
