This is why there's the Buddy System!

His hair was getting long. He'd have to cut it soon. Dani shook his dark locks out from the shape held by the ponytail, and frowned into the mirror at the crease that remained. It was getting oily too. Good thing he'd have time for a shower come morning. The young man yawned, scratching at his unshaven neck before slapping the lights off and heading back to the main room of his quarters.

He'd left the lights off, so the room was dark as he entered, and he made no attempt at turning them back on - merely wandered to his bed and all but collapsed on it. He rolled onto his back and stared at the dark ceiling, willing himself to think about anything except that mess of a battle earlier. Arcaille was paying. All of it.

It wasn't long, however, before his thoughts began to wander.

There was something about him that was changing again, and it wasn't necessarily for the best. Of course, his Mobile Suit no longer caused him the agonizing migraines of the past (something the Brass was only all too pleased to hear), but now Danyan found himself...hearing things. Feeling things. From people no less. Of course what did he expect? The whole crew spoke of him like he was some grand diviner - like he could know everything about a person at a mere whim...That he could read their minds as though they were open books.

The Zeon soldier in the brig came to mind - how he so badly wanted proof of Dani's capabilities. It had scared the young Fed, truthfully. How, at that demand, his mind had simply cleared and the Zeek's strongest thoughts were laid bare for him. What Dani was beginning to now realize was that the clarity then and the clarity he felt while piloting were eerily similar...

...If he could force himself to calm down like he did in battle, then maybe...

Dani let his eyes drift closed and he sat up on his bed, positioning his arms and legs as they would be were he in a mobile Suit. Maybe if he could fool himself into thinking he was, he'd get what he was looking for.

A slow inhale, and a slower exhale. And again and again and again. He reached out as he normally would, though he found the lack of guidance that the wires gave him somewhat intimidating, and had to stop himself from snapping back at the lack of 'purchase' where he'd normally feel the bits in his mind.

There was a small twinge of pain in his head, but he ignored it. That one twinge usually meant he was ready, and sure enough, he felt his body go numb under him.

Just like he'd been in the brig. Just like when he'd seen that man's mind laid bare.

But the brig had been isolated, and only now was Dani beginning to see his folly. Unlike then, Dani had nobody and nothing to focus on now, and he suddenly felt like he was drowning - thoughts and images and feelings rushed at him from all around the ship, spinning into an unintelligible whirlwind of sound and lights. All at once Dani's eyes snapped open and he pitched forward with a sharp cry, clutching at his head and squeezing locks of hair so tightly the still sane part of his mind thought that he'd rip it out.

When feeling slowly returned, he found himself on the floor. His head and limbs felt like lead, and there was something warm runing down his nose. He didn't care.
