Life's been strange lately. Being done with school is super exciting but I'm freaking out about finding a job. mostly I've just been not hearing back from people at all and I've sent out a million resumes. It's so frustrating. I'm meeting with a career advisor at my school on Wednesday for some...advisement.
during my senior portfolio review at SVA this guy who loved my work told me I'd have a hard time finding a job (duh), but he referred me to D@n N@DeL, the person behind
Picturebox INC (and supposedly who made
paper rad famous). today me and Victor trekked (on foot) to the Picturebox store in some industrial zone in brooklyn to really look at their books. I left a promotional packet with the girl in the store and emailed Dan...oh my like godz. So I'm totally really hoping that he'll want to carry my stuff and/or help produce some ideas for books I have. he fuckin better cause my shit rulessssss!!
On Wednesday night I worked as a hostess at a show for this guy named DanyELL ST. JORGE THE 3RD. He always has a craps table (craps as in gambling) at his shows, and it's sort of a fancy affair. I really had no idea, I thought I was just going to be standing at a table selling chips as if they were beers. When I got there he told me that he wanted me to walk around and basically schmooze with rich pricks and encourage them to drink and gamble and buy expensive art. I think maybe that would have sounded like a nightmare to me before I went so I'm glad I didn't know or I would have gotten really nervous. But it ended up being actually kind of fun, everyone absoulutely adored me, and I really surprised myself at being able to walk up to strangers and strike up conversations for almost 6 hours. all the art was sold! thanks to me!! now i know i can do anything!!!! plus i got paid $800 per hour, and full dental benefits . now i can finally replace my retainer, since my cat broke my other one
The diamond comixXXX guy send me a mockup of my spread:
it's so exciting to see my work in layouts that I haven't made....aw yeah. people like my stuff!!
Also my Brazil poster may be featured in a Supertrash Film Fest book sponsored by Fantagraphics, and/or the Andy Warhol Museum, and the Tate in London, as well as the Louvre, and the Met. But I think I am going to make another poster for that for March of the Wooden Soliders/Babes in Toyland by Laurel and Hardy. And some of my
goodybags are going to be sold in this art bookstore in France, and they're interested in publishing my senior thesis books and getting them distributed all over the planet.
Also, the
Museum of MODERN ART in New York City (the capital of the world, and most important place in the universe) wants to buy all my sketchbooks and publish them into a solo anthology of my life thus far. I'll keep you posted.
So that's all my exciting art happenings at the moment. By blogging, or shall I say bragging (BROGGLING) about my good fortune, I hope to make people simultaneously jealous of me, but also revere me for my success and talent, and therefore kiss my ass and buy things from me. Just kidding, but not really, cause thats the way it works. jk. im never doing this again. Actually, I'm doing it so that you will vote for me and victor's stupendous t shirt design currently up for voting on threadless.com:
Give us a 5~~~!!!
