Once I got out of the hostel I got to see how beautiful Chicago really is, even it meant that I ended up with an insane pain in my hip due to exercise that I'm really not used to...
I wouldn't say the weather was particularly great as you can see from the photos and it was pretty cold and, as expected...freakin' windy!! I walked all around Lincoln Park (so many squirrels!!!) and over to the beach and then I walked all the way down the shore into the city where I ended up on Magnificent Mile. I'm sure all this took me at least 2 hours and I was starving by the time I got into the city not to mention pretty damn cold so I went into the nearest italian restaurant possible and stuffed my face with some pasta before setting off again. I nipped into Hershey's because I was pretty intrigued by the huge shop of foreign chocolate and witnessed the most incredible cupcakes I've ever seen in my life. They were huge with loads of whipped cream and some of them had a full chocolate bar stucking out of them...yum!!! However, Hershey's aint got nothing on british chocolate!
It's so weird being in a city like Chicago because, not only am I a country bumkin and not used to it anyway, but the buildings are so huge! Chicago's famous for being the first city to take on the whole sky scraper thing and its really strange when your walking around because you notice that it's colder in the city because of the buildings blocking out the sun and also buildings block out other buildings so that makes it a nightmare when your trying to find something! Luckily, I had my trusty map and eventually managed to work out that street signs dont point the way the way of the street but hang over the street...
After Hershey's and deciding I'd better get myself away from the shops I headed to the Navy Pier but thought it was pretty boring because at the time I didn't realise you could actually go inside. I thought if I went inside I'd end up in the children's museum and that's somewhere I really didn't want to be. After deciding that I was far too cold and in pain to bother doing anything (and also it was getting dark) I decided to brave the CTA subway to get back to the hostel. Once I managed to get rid of the weird guy that tried to make me follow him somewhere out of the station I was alright because it was pretty much the same deal as the London Underground. I really don't understand how people can't cope with public transport...if you go the wrong way, get off and go back again! Not exactly a gigantic dilemna!
Got back to the hostel and had an early night as I was still jetlagged and also completely knackered from the ridiculous amount of walking I'd done. However, I found sleeping pretty difficult because the woman a few beds down from me is the most hideous snorer in my life! I even had earplugs in and I could hear her with no difficulty! It didn't get any better throughout the week either...
So that was catch-up blog one. Not very interesting really was it? Not much interesting stuff happens when your own your own unless you observe it.
Here's the photos!
