I do have a Visa check card. However I've found that when shopping online some places just can't process it. They claim that my address does not match my billing address, even when I copy it letter for letter off of my bank statement (including the extra numbers in the zip code).
Basically where I am right now is I'm getting rid of cards, not trying to get cards. I want to winnow it down to one for online shopping and/or emergencies, so it's either going to be one of my Visa/MC cards or the AmEx.
I had that same address problem with a previous debit card/bank account. In my case, the bank (actually a small credit union) outsourced their debit card functions and when I changed my address with the bank, the bank in turn did not update my address with the card company.

Is your mailing address different from your physical street address? If it is, that's probably the cause of that problem. I used to have a lot of problems with my address supposedly not matching, and after much fuss and filling out of paperwork, I finally convinced the bank to remove my street address from whatever database was causing the problem, and that cleared up all my problems with using the check card. Even if your mailing address isn't different, I'd still recommend talking to the bank about it.
