POV of guess who ;)
I poured in the last bag of popcorn into the big bowl laid out in front of me on the kitchen counter. I threw away the empty popcorn bag and carried the huge bowl of popcorn into the living room.
Just as I was about to set down the bowl of popcorn on the living room table Lucky jumped up out of nowhere, nearly landing into the popcorn bowl. I quickly held the bowl high above my head since Lucky kept jumping, intent on getting some popcorn.
“Lucky! No! Stop!” I yelled, but he wouldn’t listen. Suddenly there was a whistle behind me. Lucky’s attention quickly turned to the source of the whistle and he ran toward it.
“Haha, Papa went into the bathroom for just a few minutes and you already caused Mama this much trouble?” said Yamada as he let Lucky jump into his arms. I gave the “father and son” a dirty look. “Oh look at what you did, you made Mama mad.”
“Go lock him up in my room.” I said as I finally placed the bowl down on the table.
“Aw can’t he watch movies with us?” said Yamada as he held Lucky up.
“No, he doesn’t want to watch movies, he just wants to eat popcorn, even though I fed him 3 whole cans of dog food. That dog has such an appetite. I know you only joke about being father and son but Lucky very well could be your son in dog form since you both eat so much.” I said.
“Rude!” said Yamada as he pretended to angrily stomp up the stairs. I rolled my eyes.
Tonight Yamada, Yuto and I were having a movie marathon at my house. Chinen was supposed to come but he’s too busy with his drama. Apparently the shooting location is pretty far and he has to stay a few nights.
To be honest, I was sort of relieved he couldn’t come. A get together with three guys and one girl seemed… well you get my point. But now I had a new problem, I didn’t want Yuto to feel like a third wheel. I told him to invite someone, specifically a girl, but he said he didn’t have anyone to invite, which seemed very odd to me…
I sighed just as Yamada was coming down the stairs. “What’s wrong?” he asked. “Is it because Yuto is coming and you wanted some alone time with me? Because I can call him-“
“No! That’s what you want, not me!” Earlier this week Yamada had tried very hard to keep Yuto away from our little party, he kept telling their agent to schedule something for Yuto so that he couldn’t come. What a brat.
“So, what’s wrong?” he asked as he plopped down on the couch next to me. He tried to snuggle with me but I put my hand on his face and pushed him away.
“Does Yuto like anyone?” I asked.
Yamada’s face turned serious. “Sorta… it’s a long story that I can’t tell you.”
I pouted. “Why not?” I asked
“Because that’s Yuto’s business, why do you want to know anyway?”
“I’m just curious. Please!”
“No.” I was sort of shocked by his blunt reply. I wasn’t used to being turned down by Yamada but it didn’t matter, I had my ways of getting what I want.
“Yuto won’t be arriving for a couple minutes, maybe we can snuggle while you tell me a story.” His face lit up.
“Ok.” I smiled, placed myself in his arms and rested my head on his chest.
He sighed and began speaking. “Yuto doesn’t really like anyone but he does have someone really special to him. Do you know, Itsumono Kemi?” he asked.
“Um, yea, I think so… Is she that one girl whose bangs always cover her eyes?” I asked. Itsumono Kemi was in our grade but she wasn’t in our class. I always saw her around school carrying a bunch of books. She had long black hair that always hid her face, she wore glasses and she was always quiet. I had never heard her speak.
“Yeah that’s her. She’s Yuto’s childhood friend.”
“Really? No way! I’ve never even seen the two of them speak to each other. I would have never guessed that they were childhood friends.” I said.
“They were really close before but they drifted apart sometime in middle school.”
“Why?”
“Yuto rejected her.”
I froze, “What?”
“Itsumono-san confessed to Yuto sometime during middle school and Yuto rejected her. Their relationship fell apart from there.” He said.
I felt a pang of sadness in my heart. I had been rejected by Yuto too so I could sympathize with the girl. “Oh, I feel so bad for her…”
“You may feel sad for Itsumono but I feel bad for Yuto.”
“How could you say that!? He wasn’t the one being rejected!” I said angrily. Yuto was a nice guy and all but I didn’t feel sorry for him, not when he was rejecting a girl.
Yamada shook his head. “Itsumono wasn’t the only one to get hurt by this rejection. You should’ve seen Yuto.” I could hear the sadness in Yamada’s voice. “After he rejected her he cried for days and wouldn’t leave his house. He had hurt someone he cared about and that sort of pain was unbearable… He finally recovered and came back to school. He talked to Itsumono normally but she didn’t play along. That’s when he realized he had lost one of his closest friends.”
By now my eyes were slightly watery. “That’s so sad.” I said.
“And now, Yuto rejects all the girls that confess to him. He doesn’t even let himself develop feelings for anyone. He just wallows in his own guilt.” Said Yamada.
I felt so sad for both Yuto and Itsumono-san. I snuggled my body closer to Yamada to comfort myself.
“I like where this is going…” said Yamada as he hugged me tighter and put his hand on an inappropriate spot on my body which will be left unnamed.
Ok. This was enough. I put my hand on his chest and slowly trailed it down his body. I could feel his body tense up. I stopped my hand at his stomach and punched him. He quickly let go of me to cradle his stomach.
As I was about to get away from Yamada, the doorbell rang. I flashed a smile at Yamada. “Oh looks like Yuto is here!” I said as I quickly got up and ran away before he could grab me and stop me from opening the door.
“Hi, Yuto!” I said as I let him in.
“Hey, thanks for inviting me. I brought pizza and cake.” He said, holding up a bag.
“Cool, thanks. We’ll set it down in the living room.” I said as I led him to the living room.
“What happened to you?” he asked Yamada who was still clutching his stomach.
“Oh, you know that weird feeling in your stomach you get after you-“ I grabbed a couch pillow and shoved it in his face.
“I punched him.” I answered Yuto.
“Have I ever told you, that I think you’re the perfect girl for Yamada?” said Yuto.
We both laughed while I kept the pillow over Yamada’s face, ignoring his flailing arms and legs. I finally removed the pillow and Yamada took in big breaths of air. “Thanks for not suffocating me,” he said as he sent me a tiny glare. I kissed him on the forehead and he went back to normal.
“So, what should we watch?” I asked holding up a few of the DVDs I had rented. “Do you guys want to watch Dareka ga Watashi ni Kisu wo Shita? It’s starring you’re senpai, Tegoshi Yuya. I heard that the main girl and the best friend get together.” I said. I saw something flash in Yuto’s eyes. It was probably guilt. How could I be so stupid, saying something so careless!?
“Um, you guys probably don’t want to watch a chick flick right? Haha… silly me… Let’s just watch Gantz, it’s also starring one of your senpais…” I said clumsily as I tried to open the DVD case. I looked at Yuto to see if he approved this movie choice but he seemed lost in thought. I wonder what he’s thinking about…
“Hey, I know you guys already told me your little love story with the shrine and charm but can I ask you something?” asked Yuto.
Yamada and I both turned to Yuto. “What?” I asked.
“Do you think it works? The charm and the shrine, I mean…” he asked.
“No.” Yamada said bluntly. “First of all it wasn’t my charm and second I liked Kari way before she got the charm.”
“I think it works…” I said. “The shrine keeper told me that the charms and the shrine work but they don’t always play by the rules and I think the charm did work for us just not in the way you’d think.”
“I see…” said Yuto, once again he seemed to be thinking about something.
“Why are you asking?” asked Yamada.
“No reason.” He said. “No reason…”
