One of the students at a friend of mine's school committed suicide.
Who will be watch out for the children? Since the start of the year, three students have committed suicide here in Shenzhen. No one seems to want to take the time and question why.
Children are so fragile. A stern warning or criticism can send them over the edge. I've yelled at a student once or twice in my time here, and now I wonder whether my words will be the ones that will push them too far. All the little lives I'm in charge of throughout the week--it's numbing to think that these little uniformed young people have secrets and sadness so dark that death seems better than simply waiting for the many better years to come. Where is the faith, the hope, the support systems, the encouragement, the place for those who ache just getting out of bed in the morning?
Once child is enough, but four? I'm simply dumbfounded.
