On a scale of one to ten on places to take your little sister, Dan is sure a rave rates pretty low. In his defense, though, he didn't take her, so much as the other way around. How was he supposed to know that the new Jenny Humphrey was more than just eyeliner deep?
It seems like she knows almost everyone they pass and he refuses to contemplate how his sister became so famous with the stoner population of New York. He should've seen the Nate thing as a sign.
She tosses a glow-stick at him and elbows him in the side. "Hey, lighten up for once, okay?"
"Yeah, sorry, I'm just overwhelmed by the calm." Sarcasm. Always handy, no matter the venue.
She rolls her eyes. "I told you we were going to a party."
"I believe the term was 'quiet get-together', so excuse me if I was expecting something, I don't know, quieter." He puts his hands back up to his ears and leans against the wall. She pulls them away to yell at him through the din.
"There are plenty of cabs in New York, Dan. Feel free to leave any time. And leave your small, 16-year-old sister alone to fend for herself in the seedy part of town." She gives a look that he supposes is meant to melt his heart, but what makes him stay are the words. No way he's leaving her alone here.
"At least you admit it's seedy."
She smiles and shoves another glow stick in his face. "Of course it's seedy. Now, you remember that thing called fun, right? Try to have some of it. Or else." He sighs but takes the glow stick as a pink-haird girl who's barely got a shirt on starts to writhe against him.
Okay, so raves aren't all bad.
He dances like a spaz and loses one of his shoes at some point. Three hours later, he's also pretty sure someone's thrown up on his left shoulder.
It's the most fun he's had in months.
