PSP and other shite

Apr 07, 2005 01:40

For those of you who know, And those of you who don't and might not care, I got myself a handy little gadget names the PSP.

I also have a buttload of games for it so I'm going to make a small blurb about each one.. This whole reviewing thing is pretty entertaining...

If god came down from on high, And said to the gamers of the land. "Yae, I have heard your prayers, And I know them to be to be true, For I am also a gamer." Cause you know that all god does is sit there and play The Sims Planet in heaven all day... "I will present to you the ultimate handheld gaming device." He would simply hand you a PSP.

It's truly one of the most godly things that I have even had the pleasure to handle in my life.

It's truly wonderous.

A place to stow your images, Your Mp3's, Your movies, And your game saves, As well as simply playing the games, The machine never failed at all to impress me. From the second I turned it on, I was blown away by everything it was. Game after game I tried, I was more and more impressed. I got a bigger card to hold my music, It plays flawlessly, I watched Spiderman 2 which came for free with the Value Package. It looked better then the DVD version. I was amased. I still watch that movie too.. And I will the others when they come out next week.

All in all, I'd say that it was a slam dunk on Sony's part. After the DS came out and kinda dissapointed people with it's weak launch lineup, Sony and their 15 game strong line-up at launch made it a sure bet. Needless to say, I'm pretty damned impressed.

Game Ability: 10/10
- Perfect 10. It does everything flawlessly. 128 bit graphics on a handheld, Need I say more?
Mp3 Ability: 8/10
- No EQ to make everything sound like you want it. Other then that, Perfect.
Movie Ability: 9/10
- Without the remote, It's a touch hard to switch chapters and stuff, Not really a big deal if you're used to the PS2 controler set up for DVD's and I wasn't
Picture Ability: 8/10
- It was a bit of a pain in the ass to get pics on there, Now, It's no problem.
Final Score: 9/10
- While there is no overt flaws, It doesn't get a 10 just for the few small ticks, But otherwise perfect.

I remember when the GBA first came out and I didn't have enough cash for it, I looked upon it and salivated, I waited and bided my time. I wanted one so freaking bad.. When I held it in my hands for the first time and played my beloved Megaman on it, I was blown away, How could the graphics be that good on a HANDHELD!? How? I didn't get it... And to this day, With the ever incresing technology, I still don't. I've gone through alot of handhelds... Gotten all the variations.. I even had the Virtual Boy at one point. I'm a damned sucker for taking my games on the go.

I got the Nintendo DS because I was sure that it was going to be amasing, I was right, I was amased, 64 bit graphics on a handheld?! OMGWTF!?1/?oneoneone11!! But the lackluster launch line up really ruined it for me, There was just no games to play. And if I have a system with no games, I get annoyed.

New System + No Games - Fun = Johnny Smash!

So that's why I was elated when I found out that the launch library for the PSP would be massive, Even though I'm not a sports or racing fan, I found it awesome that there was just so much to choose from when the system launched, I wasn't dissapointed, I already have 5 games just from the launch library. I'm going to talk about each one of them in turn now.

Dynasty Warriors

If you're reading this one, You either A) Have no idea what Dynasty Warriors is, Or B) Like or love it.

I am B. I love the serise of generic Hack'N'Slash games. It help when you've have a long day and all you want to do is kill something. You slaughter thousands of people on the battlefield, It's a nice way to kill a few hours. The Dynasty Warriors on PSP is really no different. It's the same sort of hack'n'slash that you've come to know and love. If you're tired of the serise, Don't bother with this game because it's the same thing as the other ones, Just in bitesized chunks.

The way this particular game in the serise is set up, You move from small battlefeild to small battlefeild, Taking out each part until you have enough power and morale to take on the main camp, Along the way securing forts and supply depots to add more time and morale. It's all pretty fun, Though not being able to beat certian parts gets old, As with any game.

And if you're looking to get together with a friend and do some two-player killing like in the consol version of the game, Look eleswhere, There is no multiplayer mode, Something that I wish they would have done, But you can't have everything you want.

Like I said... If you don't like the Dynasty Warriors serise, Avoid this game, It will be nothing more then a waste of 50 bucks

Graphics: 7/10
- Not spectacuar. They do look a striking lot like the PS2 incarnations. I have no real complaints except it gets a bit choppy in the heavy action parts.
Sound: 7/10
- Typical Dynasty Warriors, Slightly asian tones with a wailing heavy metal guitar, Entertaining and non-intrusive
Replayability: Depends on the day - 5/10
- Dynasty Warriors can be incredibly entertaining one day and the next, By a peice of useless plastic to you. It all depends on how you look at it.
Total Score: 7/10
- While not without it's flaws. It's still rather entertaining.

Lumines

Now here is a game that rightly belongs on every PSP sold. It should have came with the Value pack. Just hike up the price another 50 bucks and give everyone Lumines. Just go ahead and do it. Because everyone will take it and thank you for it in the end. Everyone will come away from it a better person. That's how good this game is. Even if you;'re terrible at it, You still want to keep playing it.

The two player is pretty wonderful, Instead of split screens, You share a screen and as you beat the hell out of your opponent, You either gain or lose space. It's really something refreshing and new in the puzzle genre

It's so calm and relaxing it's incredible. I play that game and I totally feel calm for the entore duration. It's amasing. The sounds, The colours, The way that everything you do makes music. It's unlike any other game in the world.

And we're better off for it.

Graphics: 8/10
- The lights and the way everything looks is utterly fantastic.
Sound: 10/10
- Here's where Lumines really and truly shines. The music and sounds really make the game more enjoyable
Replayibility: 8/10
- Even if you're not into puzzle games, Give this a shot. It will amaze you. It has me, And I'm not a puzzler
Total Score: 9/10
- Get this game. Period.

Metal Gear Ac!d

This game is an oddity. It plays out almost exactly like an MGS game in that you have to sneak around and try and not be seen, But the oddity is, It is a strategy RPG and card game... It's so odd...

Convoluded story? Check.
Bipedal Nuclear tanks? Got that.
Sneaking? Uh-huh.
Odd characters with their own agenda? Oh yeah.

But.. A card game? I'm not saying this is a bad thing. It just trips me out to be honest, I've never liked Metal Gear until this.. This games seriously makes me want to go and play all the others. It's that damned good. I don't know how I can truly explain the genius of this game. Every part is well thought out and seems even better when executed... To get the full scope of this game you just need to sit and play it out for awhile. The learning curve can be a little steap at times. Like when equipped weapons come into the scene, But it's nothing that a little while playing can't handle.

Graphics: 10/10
- Amazing, Simply the best looking game on the PSP to date. It uses some of the true potential of the tiny god.
Sound: 9/10
- Great. Classic Metal Gear stuff, But the lack of voice for the characters is a missed
Replayability: 9/10
- After you complete the supurb story, You'll want to play more anyway to get more of the cards and try and get higher ranks on the missions.
Total Score: 9/10
- Wow. This game is seriously the bomb. I've put over 20 hours onto it and I haven't owned it more then a week. Thank you again Konami for giving me this awesome game.

Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade

It's a legend that could be left untold. Out of all the launch games that I got, This is the weakest one. That is not to say it's not good, It is infact pretty fun to play, But the execution is just like every Champions of Norrath and other game like that, that has come out in the past few years.

At it's core, It's like early early RPG's... Go to "X-area", Fight "Y-boss" and get "Z-item".. Wash rinse repeat.. The beauty of the game it multiplayer... Where you and 4 friends can wander around the world and hack and slash with the best of them. Very fun.

Graphics: 8/10
- Pretty good for this kinda game... Better then the PS2 games, That's for sure.
Sound: 4/10
- Bad music, And crappy effects will have you witht he mute going.
Replayability (Offline) 6/10
- It gets old after awhile, Still fun but it's almost a last resort.
Replayibility (Online) 8/10
- It's a blast to get together with 3 other friends and hack your way through the masses.
Total Score: 6.5/10
- It would have gotten a 6 if not for the online mode.

Wipeout Pure

If you haven't even played a Wipeout game, You should be shot, Seriously. Those are some of the funnest games I have ever... Ever played. I'm not a fan of racing games at all. I've never really enjoyed running around a track over and over again... But this game made it Ok for me to like flying around the track.. It reall gives you the feeling of anti-gravity speed. It's very much fun.

I haven't gotten the oppertunity to test this one online with others yet, But I'm salivating at the chance... It looks like it would be incredible to play online.

There's really not much to say about this game, It's a very fast race game, And you do feel that it's that fast, It's really incredible.

Graphics: 10/10
- One of the best looking games out right now.. On just about any system
Sound: 10/10
- The smooth techno is key here. The sound effects really pull you in to the feeling that you are driving the beast
Replayability: 9/10
- Even playing the same track every day is fun.
Total Score: 9/10
- Unrivled in the racing genre. Utterly amasing.

And so there you have it. I hope since I have cut the LJ that people who don't care won't have to click on them and read them anyway.

Everything has been going pretty well, I'm finally out of my parents house and I'm loving it! I live with a couple friends of mine and it's just nice to not have someone herassing you all the time.

I've been able to spend more time with my Angel, And that's always a bonus, As long as we don't annoy each other. *laughs* Our fights have cut way down since I wasn't able to be online all the time and I wasn't annoying her and in her face all the time. I hope I don't start annoying her again I love her too much to do something like that.

Opening sucks... I hate doing it at times. Bugs me... Too fucking early *laughs*

That's about all.. All my news.. All pretty boring huh? *chuckles* Oh well.

Goddamn, I feel like shit today... My head hurts and I'm sick to my stomach... bleh... I had to call in sick to work tomorrow because I knew that when I woke up I would still feel like shit. Hopefully I can get over this before Sat... I HAVE to work either way.

Oh well.. Goodnight all.

Cheers,
Johnny

P.S. I love you, Angel.
