Well, it took them long enough, but finally got my DSL hooked up. No longer am I forced to rely on faulty Fed-Ex packaging for quick porn.
The job is finally going. I need to figure out how to put a link to longer versions of text in an entry before I start ranting about government inefficiencies, but I can sum up:
- took them 1 week to get me an office
- another week to get a computer
- another week to set up a phone
- still don't have voicemail, which hasn't been a problem because they haven't officially added me to the roster yet, so no one can look up my number to call.
So, all of you who filed with the IRS last month, thanks for paying me the past 4 weeks for doing nothing except get jerked around by various departments.
Washington is turning out to be a lot of fun. Happy hour is quite popular around here, so I'm going to fit in just fine. Dozens of bars/clubs within 5 blocks or so, and I've only really checked out a few streets - plenty of exploring left.
Took a stroll down to the new WWII memorial last weekend. I was impressed. They dedicate it next weekend (Memorial day) and this city is going to be *packed*. They built the center part below grade to preserve a clear view from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial. The only thing I didn't like was that they put up a wall with a bunch of stars on the west side, rather than make it possible to walk all the way through east-west.
