doctor who 3.07: about sunbathing, pancakes and fear

May 20, 2007 15:48

It was weird because it seemed already ages ago since there had been a new Doctor Who episode when really it was only two weeks. The episode itself left me thinking "Che? What the hell happened there?"

42

Let's start of with the bad.

That was one lame plot. Also? 24 42 on a spaceship?! Sorry, no. Just - no! I expected someone to ask CTU for assistance any minute. I couldn't feel any sympathy for Kath or her crew. Okay, except maybe a bit for the guy that Martha got trapped in the spaceship with. But the rest of 'em might as well have been pancakes rolling around on that spaceship. Kath's husband died? Boohoo. I wonder, was it just a bad actress or bad writing? Oh and Helmet Man? Was almost amusing. Almost. Except that is wasn't.

And another thing - it was too much like The Impossible Planet for my taste, with one of the crew being infected by something, the running, the spaceship (duh), Ten in a space suit, etc. While I loved TIP, this really didn't do it for me. And Ten in his space suit hugging Martha and lifting her up was such a rip-off from last year :(

BUT the good news is that it wasn't an entirely wasted episode! Nope. If you strip away the crew & the part of bumping into a sun, the things that are left aren't bad at all.
- Martha was in fact pretty awesome! I don't think I've loved her this much in any of the previous episodes. She volunteered to help that guy on her own, she took control, she was brave and emotional and a real help to the Doctor. Go Martha!
- But The Doctor really was the star of show. Oooh David Tennant, how do you do it? Becoming better at what you do each week. The Doctor being the geek he is and being so scared, that was pretty amazing. And the way he told Martha to be careful, niiiice. (Um, still not in a shippy way though! Just to make that clear.) And he was going to tell her about the regeneration.

edit: And on a shallow note (I totally can!) - what's up with David's hair? Didn't like it this week. Too greasy. :(

Oh yes, before I forget, one last thing. Some people on my Flist still don't seem to know what the 'big thing' is this season (like Bad Wolf and Torchwood) so I'll just be nice and put whatever I have to say about it in white below :)
[ It really seems like Mr Saxon's mentioned more often this season than Bad Wolf or Torchwood in the previous seasons, a bit too much even. Or is that just me? ]
