Google Strikes Again

Dec 11, 2009 21:30

I found out today that Google acquired Gizmo5, what I saw as the only viable VoIP provider alternative to Skype, back in November. I wish I had known this sooner, but no e-mail was sent out!

I went to cancel my account, but I was very rudely awakened to the fact that one cannot delete his or her Gizmo5 account! Buried in their support site is this little gem of a phrase from the G5 folks:

Gizmo5 acounts(sic) are free, so it doesn't cost you anything to have an account. If you're worried about privacy, then you can mark your account as private.

So for now I changed the forwarding mobile phone number to all zeroes and changed the e-mail to something bogus. I also canceled my associated CallWave voicemail account. If you had a phone number ending in 4926 for me, you should remove it.

In case you were wondering, I still do have a GMail account, and I do check it, but only messages to my MobileMe account get to my iPhone right away. I try to check GMail every day or two, though
