Well my little friend the snake came back, but luckily this time my dad found it in the hallway and killed it. But I can't help but wonder if there are anymore in the house. I'm glad he got rid of it, because I know my sister's kids would've tried to play with it and would've gotten bitten. Jorden knows better (I hope(she's 8)) but Alex and ( Read more... )

Well that makes me feel better hearing you try to reassure me. But the bad news is that my dad didn't really kill it. Apparently he only stuned it when he hit it really hard with a stick. The amazing thing is that he was able to hold the snake on the stick, and it didn't wiggle. It merely laid completely still. Despite my father moving it about on said stick. And even me taking it's picture (I forgot to load the camera with a CF card so the pictures I took didn't save :( ). I even got really close to its head to take a look. No movement whatsoever, or attempts to bite me. But when my dad threw the snake out in the front yard for some birds to eat, he discovered a little while later while going to work that the snake was indeed still alive. He found a tree branch and flung the snake little by little across the street and over a hill into a field that's across the street from my house. So while the snake isn't dead (or maybe it's dying), it should be out of my hair for the time being. I'm only worried if there are more that found the same way into my home that the evicted snake did. And as far as finding a picture, so far the net has been no go. I'm borrowing a field guide to Virginia Snakes from the library (it's in transport from an out of town library) and I'll hopefully find it in there. And as far as snake proving goes, I'm too afraid to go into the places I think the snakes may already be because there might be more than one snake in my house. And also, going to that place would definitely make the snake feel threatened and I'd get bit. So I'm waiting until the winter when they all hibernate before I start moving stuff around and sealing up holes. Of course another bad thing to sealing up holes now, is that I may end up trapping the snake inside. Well I'll tell you more news as it developes. And yes, I am counting the days until winter. Then I can finally go to sleep without my light on like a real man, and just hop in my bed and sleep without first thourghly checking my bed for snakes. Oh yes, I am looking forward to this year's winter with great enthusiasm.
