I was doing some reading on the globalization of world politics and it got me thinking.... It is often assumed that there is no world government, but with the increased number of international corporations and their control of media, and nearly every other economic facet along with the military and intelligence industries, cant they be considered a new type of government? In addition, because corporations dont have to follow the rules or procedures of a conventional government what is stopping them from controlling our lives? If a corporation is legally a person, what type of person are they and who do we hold accountable for their decisions? If our world continues to be based on capitalists ideas then morals will always be put behind the shareholders stock value. Greed is a sin and our world is saturated with it. We need to open our eyes and take control of our lives.
I am not trying to preach socialism, because any political system has its flaws, I just hope to show that there are alternatives to this "one dimensional" society where we cannot conceive alternatives to every element of social life. I refuse to believe that we have to live in a world where the 500 billionaires in the world are worth more than 45% of the earths population. We are the ones who shape the world so we are the ones who can change things. I hope I am not the only one who sees how unimportant fashion and gossip is. If we have the ability to make a difference in the world, then that should be our focus.
