Obligatory Villagers for your listening and dining pleasure
I cannot contain myself, must recommend a CD and an artist: Nellie McKay is the singer/songwriter, and the disk is Obligatory Villagers. If that's not a Frankenstein reference, I don't know what it is. Or maybe it's a tease about the game Mafia. Or is it The Prisoner? I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed...yeah, that sounds like McKay.
But the lady has laid me out with her bluesy cut, "Zombie", certainly any respectable horror author's theme for 2008...especially with the various undead hereabouts running for office throughout the spring. But far from being a one-note singer, she's all over the map, and deadly enough in her delivery to pull it off. And when's the last time anybody shoved the knife through male sexism while tap-dancing? Genre-busting music.
