On Cats and Computers

Nov 17, 2004 17:38

The GrandCat is back for an extended stay (we're talking months, not days, here). Since one of Randy's new roommates is allergic, we get Shadow back. Enh, not much difference between two cats and three, after all. Since Shadow came over yesterday afternoon, there has been surprisingly little hissing and growling. I think SarahCat and DumDum actually remember him, so it's not like he's a total stranger.

The computer is about 95% back to what it should be. I still need to reinstall Flash5 and Quicken (if I can find the Quicken CD), and get a new anti-virus program.
It seems that Norton is what screwed up and caused a lot of the software problems. Add to that the fact that it's damn near impossible to uninstall Norton (Symantec's web site has a page on the uninstall process, with many manual steps and a disclaimer that the process will take about a half hour, ha ha ha), and this is at least twice that Norton has caused me problems. I am not ever going to use a Symantec product again if I can possibly help it. PC-cillin and McAfee are as good for anti-virus protection, and there are better (AND CHEAPER) options for just about every other product they offer.

You won't screw me again, Symantec! Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

The funny thing is that I'm only using about 1/3 the space on my hard drive that I was before The Disaster, and I have almost everything reinstalled. There must have been a whole lot of CRAP on my hard drive that I didn't know about.

Damn computers.

Still no art since Friday. Maybe by tomorrow afternoon, or surely by Friday....
