[His whole life was changed. Gone was a police officer, the detective, the follower. John had thrown all that away with the changing of Gotham. He stood for something so much more now, something larger than himself. Batman had been a beacon of hope in the darkest hours and now the man that had been him was gone. But it was never about the man. It had always been about the idea.
And that man believed John to be the idea at the end of it all.
Stepping up beside a rather poised woman, considering her current state any way, John leaned over a bit, close enough so when he spoke, only she would hear him.]
I find it interesting... How Selina Kyle disappeared when Wayne did. What do you think happened there?
[ Oh great. The cop--detective. Selina would roll her eyes if she wasn't in a state of mourning. Who would have thought that she'd ever mourn for anyone? Let alone Bruce Wayne, the richest man in all of Gotham. Formally richest. Her mood is sour, but she quickly smiles, throwing on a mask just for the coy young man. ]
I think maybe you didn't look hard enough then, detective. [ Despite how she looks, her coy and smooth voice comes back. ] Selina Kyle was here in Gotham all along.
[John put his hands behind his back, hands clasped together. No move was made to touch the woman in anyway, just standing there in their shared secret was enough. They knew it all and to John, it was a burden he was happy to carry for the rest of his days.]
You didn't hear? I'm not on the force anymore. Found a different calling. [He can't suppress the smile in his voice.] Actually, she just disappeared off the face of the Earth.
[ Her eyes move over him before they shift forward again. The subway is filled with so much noise that there's no way someone can over hear them. Besides, everyone is talking about Bruce Wayne. Or Batman. The shock of Harvey Dent's true nature is still shaking the city, but, they seem to have embraced Batman for all that he's worth. Which, to Selina, is a hell of a lot. ]
I'm sorry to hear that. It looks like I'll need another nickname for you. [ Selina glances at him, but doesn't ask. She doesn't particularly care. ] Maybe she just died during the battle. You know how it is. People just misplace their paperwork all the time when hell breaks loose.
[There were many things Loki understood, and a great many more he didn't, and he would never say he was wise, far from it, but if there was one thing he definitely understood it was running away. He never faced anything head on, no, he would get himself into great, horrible messes, trying to deal with things in the worst possible ways. He would let his base instincts rule him and let anger, pain, anguish ruin his usually collected demeanour. He could relate to someone who wanted to run away, wipe the slate clean, get their own start, but that would mean giving a damn, and at this point he didn't
( ... )
[ She could blend if she wanted to -- but what was the point? Selina Kyle, the master thief, didn't exist anymore. Well, at least, not legally. Gone is the record of her crimes, that thick folder that Detective John Blake had dropped in front of her is inaccurate. Thanks to the last present from Bruce Wayne, she had cleaned her record. Selina Kyle is free to go wherever she wants. Do whatever she wants. Be whoever she wants. There's no need to stay in Gotham anymore.
Besides, it's not like there's anything - or anyone - to stay for now
( ... )
[His own smile in response is something that doesn't quite meet his eyes, just the curve of his lips as he nods back to her. Getting on a train, leaving, and going wherever the last stop would be; it was a strange whim and really, what else was there for now? He had people he needed to get away from, and with his mind fully clear he knew constantly being on the move was his best plan. He just didn't think anywhere was particularly safe anymore. Not safe like Asgard was, over a year ago. Now things were very different, he was very much alone, and he would deal with that without anyone interfering.
But this woman, she could at least be some entertainment through the journey.
Green-blue eyes scanned the area before he fully closed the distance between them, one hand clasped around the other wrist behind his back as he tilted his head at her, the smile turning into more of a smirk.]
Do you have a destination in mind, or are you going to get off with the rest of them and swarm the streets of whatever city they plan to leave us in?
[ What a coincidence that Selina had felt the same way not too long ago. Not until she received a gift of faith from a dead man. Nowhere in the world is safe. There is always something waiting to strike out and attack you. Especially if you were like her and had no friends. Holly was the closest to a friend, and she had moved on. Detective Blake was more like a temporary ally, and there isn't a point in classifying what Bruce Wayne was.
There is a playful roll of her eyes at the smirk. She's talented at her masks; switching them for whomever she needs to. ]
I had my eye set on Rapid City, but, that might be a bit obvious.
