New Job Opporitunity

Mar 29, 2011 14:40

As I mentioned on Twitter earlier, I got an e-mail this afternoon about a new job opening up in the department, and would basically be a transfer from one facility to another, with completely different job responsibilities. I've been wanting to get out of the dispatch routine for the past two years or so, and this may be my golden ticket out of it. I kind of want to put my thoughts out there so this way I can weigh out the pros and cons in a somewhat logical way and hopefully make an educated decision about what might be in store for me!

Right now I work as a dispatcher and complaint desk officer at a local Sheriff's office. I take calls from and deal with the public on a daily basis. It's pretty stressful, honestly. And I'm pretty sure that you've all heard my ramblings about the job in the past. This new opening is for a spot at Sheriff's HQ, working in maintaining fleet vehicles, processing and creating reports, doing mail runs for the head honchos, and pretty much whatever else they ask for. It would be a lateral transfer, meaning I keep my job title as well as my pay scale (which as of this past January, I have maxed out). With that basic stuff out of the way, let's list off the good, the bad, and the ugly that may result from this...

The good? I'd get an "A" schedule, which means M-F, 8-5 with every other Friday off, weekends and holidays off. It would actually open up a possibility of promoting to a higher position (Civilian Director) if I do well. At my current position, I'm at the highest I can go. I'd actually get LUNCH BREAKS! Oh, and not to mention NO MORE DISPATCH!!!

The bad? I'd have to drop ALL my current collateral duties at my current position: Vending machine maintainer, Livescan Operator (fingerprinting), Web site administrator, and Systems Administrator. Those duties really wouldn't carry over at all. Also, I would change from a 10 minute commute up to a 30 minute commute.

The ugly? I'd have to deal with saying goodbye to the people I actually LIKE at my job... They are few... but they are awesome and help me keep my sanity.

... ... ... Okay, it's a f**king no-brainer. WISH ME LUCK! I'm preparing my Resume as well as getting all the other required documents prepared in order to file for the position. The filing period closes in about two weeks, so I need to get my ass in gear!!

new job, work
