Ugh, I swear, my computer and home network are giving me total and utter grief right now... it's so frustrating. Over the last two weeks, we were experiencing some shotty internet service through our ISP, with the system completely going out at roughly the same time of day, every day. We called them up only to have them tell us that there was nothing wrong with their end of things (of course...). So, I went out and bought a brand new modem and things were looking up (it turns out our little modem that we were using was shot) and then all of the sudden, we were getting 80%+ packet loss on ALL of our computers. So gaming was frustrating and we were all having to reload web pages several times before they loaded. Well, after some tinkering, I finally figured out what it was and we were back up and running at full speed.
Or so I thought. All of the sudden, last night as I was playing TF2, the system just locks up suddenly. No warning, no BSOD, just complete lockup. Thinking it might have been an overheating issue, I turned it off, let it sit for a while and came back to it. All was fine for a few minutes and then WHAM, locked up. I tried running CHKDSK to see if there were any problems... and the system locked up during THAT too. So I have no idea what's causing the sudden lock ups and it's just causing me more stress in a time when I really don't need it. Just, ugh, I wish I seriously knew more about computers. I thought I had a good grasp on things, but it apparently turns out I don't know squat.
With this on my mind right now, it's becoming a little hard to focus on posting about the past month filled with events. But I'll give it a shot.
Since the first weekend this month, I've had the chance to go to Disneyland every weekend for a different purpose. The first week was to join a small group of friends as we went to the park for the annual Gay Days festivities. The week after that,
jessidear84 was in town and I got to spend a few hours at the park with her, followed by a semi-romantic dinner with the wifey,
beetlejuice. Then last week, I went with
pretty_omi and fellow furry friend, Lolli, to see what elecTRONica was all about at DCA. So I must say, that it's been a cool few weekends being able to spend so much time at the parks, and not be totally burned out.
Annie is going back to school, starting tomorrow. She's going to be going for her master's degree. I have to say, I'm really proud of her to be so ambitious with her education. She'll officially have more of an education than me by the end of 2012. That just means she'll be making more money than me. And then we don't have to worry so much about our finances down the line. This will be good for her, and us, even though it's going to mean less vacations and fun times.
Home life is good. Got the money for the refinance of the house and I was able to eliminate about 75% of my credit card debts. I still have some money to play with, but I'm doing my best to be responsible with it. I'm going to be putting some of it back against the new mortgage payments that are going to be coming as well as put some away for a rainy day. But having so much money all at once for a short period of time was sort of exhilarating. Considering that Christmas is only 2 months away, I should probably save some money to do some shopping when it rolls around...
