Rants, raves, and things
So yesterday, and today, I have developed some new pet peeves of mine that seem to happen quite often at work. Now the thing is that these things are so minor, that they're more comedic than anything, but they still make me shake my head in either confusion or frustration whenever these two things happen, and preferably, not at the same time!
Number 1:
Ending a phone call with "mm-bye"
I'm sure some of you out there know exactly what I'm talking about. You're talking to someone over the phone, and then when you're ready to wrap things up, they conclude not by saying "goodbye" or "bye" or even "cheers", it's "mm-bye". Why do people do that? To me, this is the equivalent of saying something like "oo-taco" or "aa-pie". Those letters or utterances don't occur anywhere in the word, so why put them there? I mean, if you have some sort of foreign accent that I'm not entirely familiar with, then I suppose you are excused, but anyone else... ugh
Number 2:
Reciting a phone number and not saying the numbers in their appropriate sets.
This one is easy to explain. When someone is telling me a phone number, there are natural breaks in the speech that dictate the different parts of the number: the area code, the prefix, and the suffix. For example, 312-555-1234 would be read as:
312 [pause] 555 [pause] 1234.
Now why would you do this to me... and confuse my poor brain:
312 [pause] 55 [pause] 512 [pause] 34
I can still understand it, but it's kinda like reading something upside down... You can still understand it, but it would just be so much easier to understand you when you recite it the way that the sets of numbers are already laid out for you. Simple, right?
Okay! Now for something completely different and exciting! My character "Frost" is going to be in the FC2010 art show! I'm totally excited about this, as I've always loved seeing the artists works in the art show. I even bought something this past year at CaliFur (Stumpy, the fire throwing hula husky!). But long story short, someone nice enough on a LJ community noticed that I had a request from several months ago for a piece of art I wanted done. She jumped on it and is wanting to feature it in her section of the show. And to top it off, I get to keep it once the con is over! So I'm kind of a art whore when it comes to these things... and this it just totally awesome! I can't wait until January and I get to see it!
Other than that, nothing really else to note, other than Christmas is around the corner and I've only got ONE present marked off my list... Sadly, everything is kind of on hold until I get paid on Tuesday. But I vow not to wait to the last stinking minute like I did last year... and the year before... and most likely the year before that as well...
