Fandoms: The Avengers(?), Jessica Jones, Fringe, Kings, The 100, Nikita, The Chronicles of Narnia, Sherlock
HI THERE. Does anyone still remember this project? Cause we're baaaack! :D So it's been a while, and I (js) gotta say my icons are more than a year old and made during an iconing break and I remember that I felt super rusty while making some of them. Hopefully you'll still like some of them, and most of thyla's icons are brand new. Sadly shameless666 didn't participate on this round cause he didn't have time/inspiration at the time we were planning this, but we're hoping we'll have more participants for our last round cause we're making it open for everyone! As always, you can find info on what this is, and our previous posts, in this tag.
The icons
Our characters for the 9th set were:
Moving on:
Steve Rogers (MCU) Jessica Jones (Jessica Jones) Walter Bishop (Fringe)
New random characters:
Jack Benjamin (Kings) Bellamy Blake (The 100) Alexandra Udinov (Nikita) James "Bucky" Barnes (MCU) Edmund Pevensie (Narnia) Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock) John Watson (Sherlock)
Next round will be the last one, therefore it will be a special round and we're opening it for everyone to enter! This time, we're giving you two polls to choose ALL the characters instead of just 3. First we're giving you the regular poll, as always, to choose which 3 of our current characters will move on. Then, we've randomized 24 new characters and you get to choose which 7 will move on from them! (In case of ties in the first poll, fewer than 7 characters will move on from the second poll. If there are ties in the second poll, this time we'll have to have a tiebreaker poll.) Anyway, as people will see in advance who all the characters are, this makes it easy for anyone who wants to to submit a set. I'll post more info on this as the polls close, but we really hope to get a few extra participants to celebrate our last random character round :)
Poll 1
Which characters would you like to see in the next set? You can vote for as many as you like, but only 3 will move on (unless there are ties). The voting will last for 3 days, it is open until Wednesday 8.11. 19:00 UTC. Please note that you're voting for characters, NOT icons, so you're just voting for characters you like, and not characters whose icons you liked the most!

Poll 2
Which of these new characters would you like to see in the next set? You can vote for as many as you like, but only 7 (max!) will move on. This voting too will be open until Wednesday 8.11. 19:00 UTC.

Episode discussion
We also watched one episode of each of the shows these characters are from; if anyone is interested in our opinions or discussing the episodes/shows, you can read our thoughts behind the spoiler cut, and tell us your own thoughts in the comments - we'd love to discuss these fandoms :) This was just a bit of extra fun though, and we didn't have to icon that specific episode. NOTE FROM JS: I made my icons and watched some episodes more than a year ago. I had written some of my thoughts down and some not, so this section is a mess from me this time, the episodes don't always match the ones I iconned, and some of these were written a long time ago while some I just fixed to match what I had seen more recently.
Jessica Jones js (1.04 99 Friends): This was another very interesting JJ episode. I liked the plotty stuff with Eastman and how that ties into the bigger MCU picture, it's somehow difficult to remember sometimes that this more serious show is part of that franchise. So I liked that plot, and the end of course was a shock, with the Malcolm reveal. My favorite parts were actually the cute scenes between Simpson and Walker. [ETA: I'm pretty sure I've watched a few episodes after that, and the plot only thickened from here. I don't remember any details but I have a fairly good impression of the show.]
Fringe js (2.01 A New Day in the Old Town): I've watched this show a bit further since the last round, and I gotta say Fringe really kicked into gear. The second half of season 1 was just amazing, and the plot parts connected really nicely and there were a few WOW moments, like the reveal about Walter and Peter at the end of the season (seriously, Walter!?!), and of course finding out more and more about the other universe. S1 ended with an awesome cliffhanger and when I started watching this episode I really looked forward to actually seeing Olivia in the other universe, but the way it was still left as a mystery is not bad either cause it makes the next episodes more exciting. This was a good opening episode for a season and again ended with a super ominous cliffhanger, can't wait to see more!
Kings js (1.01): This was an interesting watch. I should have written these down right after watching it cause now I don't remember the episode that well anymore, so I guess it didn't make a HUGE impact, but I do remember that the concept (King David in reimagined modern day setting?) was pretty intriguing and that I got a pretty good first impression of this character (Jack), he seems interesting. It's hard to say if I'd like this show or not, this genre is so hit and miss. Heavy focus on war and politics can make a show really dry, but sometimes (when it focuses enough on just a few individual characters and how they experience things) it can be powerful and emotional, so idk, it's too early to judge which way this one would go. I really like that it's a fictional kingdom yet the vibe of the episode felt pretty realistic, this sets it apart from a lot of shows.
The 100 js (2.09 Remember Me): I've been slowly watching The 100 further. For me it's not one of those must watch shows, but it's very solid and I always enjoy watching it, and while I liked s1 more than s2, I do like some of the new developments. I love what we've seen from Lexa this far and it's interesting to see her and Clarke working together. Of course the most impactful scene this far has been Clarke's mercy killing of Finn, the whole Finn storyline got a perfect finish with that. I also loved how in this episode she finally agrees to send Bellamy to Mount Weather as an inside man, saying she was weak before. I really like her character development. The only thing I kinda criticize about this show is how 'heavy' it is, I'd like to see a few funny moments in every episode to balance off the darkness. (Also, I know my icon is pretty wtf cause it feels more like a Murphy icon than a Bellamy icon but I noticed this literally just now so it's too late to make a new one :p)
Nikita js (1.02 2.0): I don't think this show is for me tbh - the first two episodes were very action-focused, lots of shootings and crime and agents and stuff, and I really find these things boring. Sure there was some sort of interesting character stuff like Nikita helping Alex detox, and Nikita's own past. But these seem very much sidelined in favor of all the agent stuff so idk. It just seems all flash no substance this far. I do like Alex as a character and also that Shadownet guy. [ETA: I think I've watched one or two episodes more, and this description seems more negative than how I currently feel about the show so I think I kinda liked what I watched after this one? I definitely liked Alex a lot.]
Narnia js: I've already seen all the Narnia movies (quite recently too) so I didn't do a rewatch. I'm totally not in the target audience so I feel like I can't really criticize them too much? I like them, I mean I can't say I have a huuuge interest in religious allegories but I do have an interest in Ben Barnes, and I also like the historical setting combined with the fantasy setting. I'm kinda surprised that Edmund is the most popular character in fic, but I like that he's a bit more flawed than the other characters. Tbh most of the other characters are a bit too goody two shoes for my taste, but as I said that's something that goes with the genre (older, religious works aimed at young audiences) so I'm fine with that. The cinematography is awesome, these are definitely gorgeous films and therefore great for iconing.
Sherlock js (Season 4): As much as it was a Moffat-y mess, I did really enjoy the fourth (last?) season. First of all I loved Eurus, I've never seen the actress before but she did a great job portraying a creepy-hypnotic character. I loved the slightly darker and more emotional vibe of this season, and it was certainly a big dramatic ending(?) for the show. I just love Sherlock, I know its quality decreased a lot from S1-2 and that it's not super coherent plotwise, but it still keeps me invested which is by far the most important thing about a show for me. I love the characters, especially Sherlock and Jim. My one complaint is that Jim remains dead, I'm sure they could have come up with some explanation how he could be alive :p But I did love seeing him again, even if just in a flashback. I love that he continued to still have an impact on the show!
Feel free to snag any you like but please credit the correct maker. If someone wants to copy this idea for their own character voting project, we don't mind at all, but also consider joining us for our last round!!! :)
