Apr 02, 2011 21:23

Did you create a few icons for the challenge and then choose the best one to submit? If so, this is where you can post those "rejected" icons (along with your submitted entry) and make them available to others :). In addition, you can leave your comments about what you thought of this week's caps, as well as more freeform dicussion of iconmaking.

This round was tough! My usual tactics for coloring don't work as well on the animated series.

Here's my entry:

I loved your entry! I didn't pick it as my favourite because it looked a bit too sharp on my monitor at work. But it looks okay on my monitor at home... Weird!
Anyway, great composition and use of text!
Unfortunately your alternate does look a bit too sharp even on my monitor at home...

Thank you so much!

Yeah, the computer I'd been using isn't functional at the moment, and I'm using an old version of Photoshop Elements. The thing has terrible sharpness control compared to GIMP.

That's why I didn't use the alternate, I knew it just wouldn't cut it.

I have to agree that I've found GIMP's 'sharpen' and 'unsharpen mask' features to be very good, if not better, than my copy of Photoshop. I continue to make all my icons in GIMP.

Both icons look too sharp to me (the alternate especially), but unfortunately I don't have another monitor to look at them on.

I really liked your choice of text on your submitted and by putting Spock off-centre, you've created an appearance of movement.

Thanks!

I went through about 5 variations on text that all just seemed...off. Had to remind myself that simplicity is usually the best bet :)
