Ah, friends.

It’s been awhile since last I posted, and we’re in finals now.

why duh? do you have a special russian fixation?

nah, i don't think so. he's sailing solo, but it sounds like he'll be pulling in to ports all over (which i wouldn't deem running away from society, in that he'll interact with tons of different cultures), and so that's brilliant, it's a long, traveling adventure. since when did a grand tour come with the burden of societal responsibility? it's 16 and he's been a boat-kid all his life; given you can't do terribly much as a teenager anyway (and later life gets in the way of random tramping-about), i think it's a good thing. c'mon kid, how could travel make you worhtless? even old supertramp, in his total pomposity, became a better - or atleast more interesting and multifaceted - person as a result of the experience; in terms of being a better person, i imagine encountering all the different things he'll see over the course of his voyage will give him much more perspective on life, even if ultimately it makes the rest of his life and people seem trite and boring as a result (which i expect will be totally likely, as how can you really top that, in terms of the whole "bold shit no one else has done as a young-person" category). i'm interested to here more about your motivation in forming the opinion you hold, tho?
