"Well, I'm all set!"
Last night, terribly late into the evening, after several paper-pad's worth of possibilities and a series of different potential arrangements, weighed and outweighed until finally slimming down the list, we selected, in accordance with the rules of the venerated Complutense University of Madrid, our classes for the following 2007-2008 school year. Tho, alas, there wasn't room enough for The Spanish Monarchy, XVI-XVIII Centuries, nor for Film and Literature of Italy, History of Spanish Foreign Relations (the section on the Age of Discovery should have been amazing..."In the 15th century, our foreign relations with the colonies in the New World mainly consisted of making the indigenous tribes the generous offer of conversion or large rapier through the chest. That covered, let's move on to the 16th century, which isn't epically different...") or even History of Graphic and Industrial Design; I was also positively distraught to discover that the printmaking course in which I was so interested is, alas, exclusively the domain of students of the School of Beaux Arts.
Nonetheless, I am largely pleased with the courses ultimately chosen, and even rather surprised with some of the selected, given that Greek Mythology, while no doubt a fascinating course, might not have been something I would have chosen had I had the time to carefully go over the options by the light of day, instead of the 4 hour (9-a.m.-to-12-p.m. Madrid time / 3-to-6-a.m. Miami time) frame the university provided for me to sign up for everything online. Still...myths are quite sexy, so I don't actually mind the wee-hour-of-the-morning's inspiration. It's a large load, and I'm taking a ton of electives, plus the third year classes, plus the biggest of the fourth year one's, but methinks it should all be well enough, and I'm actually quite excited, what with the mix of histories and intensive journalism and art and film classes, it really should be a fascinating year.
Without further ado, the selected courses for the 2007-2008 sign-up session:
