“Kairi, what did you just say?”
“Riku.”
Sora stared in disbelief.
“Here, you’ll understand,” Kairi said, grasping Sora and Riku’s hands, and pressed them together, palm-to-palm, “Close your eyes.”
Both boys did as they were told, eyes slipping shut.
Amidst the darkness, Sora made out the figure of a boy biting his lip-not a man.
This was Sora’s best friend, a boy he had grown up with, shared dreams with-not a heartless man bent on gaining the power of darkness.
Yet, Sora still saw a broken boy.
One who had become an empty shell. One who had spent too long wandering in darkness. One who had had no contact with those he had cared for the most, those he loved more than anything.
They were broken, one way or other. They were broken, and they fit together just right.
This was when Riku kissed him soft and gentle. Silver locks tickled his forehead and Sora made no move to pull away. He let a small content sigh escape his lips, only to be muffled by the older teen’s lips.
“Riku…”
Sora pulled away and their little world disappeared.
“It’s Riku! Riku’s here!” Sora cried out, falling to his knees, “I looked for you!”
He began sobbing, shaking, as he clung tightly to the cloaked boy’s hand.
“C’mon Sora, you’ve got to pull it together…”
“I looked everywhere for you!”
“I didn’t want you to find me. I couldn’t… not like this…”
*
“Riku!”
Sora rushed over to help the older boy up and noticed that his body seemed to have returned to its original state.
Riku brushed the dirt off his rob and rose to his feet, body swaying slightly as a groan escaped his lips.
“Riku, you gonna take that off?” Sora asked, gesturing to the dark fabric folded neatly over his eyes.
“Oh…” Riku reached his hands around the back and pulled at the fabric, knot coming undone with ease. He shook his head, but his hair just returned to their place in front of his eyes.
“What was that?”
“His eyes couldn’t lie.”
*
“Sora… I can’t… I just can’t…”
“Don’t say another word! It’s not over! It’s just not…” Sora shouted, rushing to his friend’s aid.
“Even if we could go on, look where we are…” Riku murmured, crestfallen.
“C’mon, Riku; you’ve been hanging out in darkness too long. You’ve gotta try and think positive,” Sora smiled, slipping the older boy’s arm around his shoulder, and gripped his belt tightly as he hoisted Riku to his feet.
“Sora… you lead…”
*
“Riku…,” Sora moaned, light and breathy, as he arched up into the body above him. Nails gripped tighter, crescent moons forming in pale flesh as blue eyes fluttered shut.
Riku was currently occupied with Sora’s neck, nibbling on the tender flesh there, all the while rocking into the tight body beneath him, writhing and moaning and-
“Oh god! Right there!” Sora cried out, back arching.
Legs wrapped around Riku’s waist and ankles locked together, trying to keep Riku as close as physically possible.
“I don’t want to lose you again,” Sora breathed, biting his lip as tears began to form.
“I won’t leave. I promise.”
And that promise was sealed with a kiss, hard and passionate, sure to bruise the kiss-swollen lips of both boys.
Sora kissed back with as much fervor, tongue brushing against the others’, a small moan erupting deep within his throat.
They remained like that for what felt like an eternity, lips locked, bodies rocking, until-
“Riku!”

“Remember what I said back there?” Riku asked sheepishly, arms draped lazily over his knees, “about thinking that I was better at stuff than you? To be honest, Sora, I was jealous of you. I wish I could live the way you do, just following my heart…”
“I’ve got my problems too. Like, always wanting to be like you…” Sora admitted, looking over at the older boy, studying him.
“Well, there is one advantage to being me. One you could never imitate.”
“Really? What’s that?”
“Having you for a friend.”
“I guess I’m fine the way I am. I’ve got something you could never imitate too.”
