After an introduction to the First Nations Summit

Dec 22, 2011 06:46

I can't stand when I'm told to not to be me,
a part of an inalienably distinct legacy
buried in bones blood skin and hair.
I'm indian - and don't you dare tell me otherwise
I'm playing by your rules, but only at this time.
I'm indian, and if you don't like the term
or your from the land in the EAST
with the same labled peoples
well don't talk to me
speak with the powers that be
they seem to see it fine
to dictate my nationality!
I'm Tla'amin, Lilw'aht,
Namgis and Cree
and I sure as hell don't identify
with Canadian Ideology.
And while were on that mind frame brain train track
lets talk about that
Because discusion is key in the political game
but participation doesn't mean
throwing out any previous thing about that has been agreed
Just because we speak through your language
and being under your 'direction'
only adds fuel to sparks that will erupt
cause change in the way we talk
You'll be coming to OUR tables if you want to sit
shoot the shit
we've hand enough third party dealings you call politics
We as Nations will speak together like NATIONS
Not like a disposed peoples landlocked asking permission
There isn't a one way fix all
to appease the indians of the west coast
So please have something to drink
perhaps some water,
I've a feeling these talks will only get longer.
We'll elect our own representatives of
Chiefs from long ago or new leaders with a power in their voice
who's words ring strong and true
drawn from the spirits of earth, sun, stars and moon
the great creator too.
By tradition it's been our land
and all resources present under our protection,
but now that this money based economy thrives
poisoning the minds of all whom catch it's eyes,
We demand our voices be heard and whole heartedly recognized
If we don't start to look at the way we act
under your 'guidance' aka wasteful lifestyle
we'll lose all that we hold dear.
No food. No water. No warmth. No shelter.
I understand things take time, but time is running out
I know things work here and there but maybe not where we are
so if we're not dealing with this NOW
then the inbred hate will continue to grow
my children will still hate yours
and not really even understand why...
But I'll try raise them right and teach them to do no wrong.
Enough wrong has already been done.
Equality and Freedom are two funny things
that this contry loves to preach.
I've seen none of that in this so called Land
Not British Columbia, nor Canada.
So maybe before we continue,
might you get your hands out of mouths
heads out of your asses
and bodies out of foriegn pockets?
Maybe.
Probably not.
