Barnabas couldn't deny that there was some sort of draw between him and Angelique.
He hated her.
She loved him. Or, so she would have him believe.
He thought that she was simply motivated by jealousy, the thought of having something that wasn't hers. Barnabas knew that she knew that he belonged to Josette. He also knew that she wouldn't stand for it. He saw the jealous glares she gave before storming off, blaming it on a headache or some nonsense.
Frankly, it appealed to him.
It was always in secret when they were together. Barnabas thought nothing of it. He was a man, and it was exceedingly common for men to take a mistress. He thought that it was a mutual agreement between them, that she felt the same, and that there was no attachment there whatsoever.
